Hello All,
I would first like to thank you for taking the time to read/help. I greatly appreciate any input, and I am looking forward to becomming a DSO customer in the very near future(1 month from now tops). I have included my ticket number below along with additional information. I also have some specific questions I am looking to have addressed if possible.
Ticket #:
435755
Price Range:
$1500.00-$2200.00(top end is slightly flexible.)
Desired Results:
I am looking for a rig that will be able to preform VERY well(one that really 'screams' as they say) while running a lot of the current and future FPS games(Call of Duty games and all that good stuff). However, the majority of this computers use will be devoted to World Of Warcraft(I'm a geek, I know
I want to be able to run the aforementioned games on high settings without signficant decrease in playability(looking for approx. 50/50=Form/Function). I am also looking to get about 3 to 4 years of use out of this rig without having to do any major upgrades, repairs, etc...
Other info to consider & Questions:
After doing a lot of reading and research(online and in the forums), I feel that the one I created will best suite my needs. However, I have some additional information to provide along with a couple questions(for any one kind enough to address them).
I have a keyboard and game pad that I already plan on using, so these shouldn't be an issue. I am also happy with the speakers I have selected(I have had very good experiences with logi-tech in the past). I also have my heart set on the mouse(Cyborg R.A.T. 7) I have selected after reading reviews.
I have been doing Web Development for Northwest(pre-merger)/Delta(post-merger) airlines for the past 2+ years, so I know my way around computers/programs fairly well. However, I have never really put forth much effort in staying current with high end products/hardware and the specs/numbers associated with them(until recently). Here is where the questions come into play.
Is the hardware in my current set up as close to 'top end' as I will need for the tasks and goals outlined above?
I have a fairly small HD TV(Sansui, Model #: HDLCD1955A) that does have a computer monitor jack on the back. Although, I seem to recall someone telling me this wouldn't work with Windows 7, but I haven't been able to find any conclusive information elsewhere. Will this TV work well with my current build(will I notice any loss in gaming preformance and/or visuals)?
I chose the Malestrom Chasis mainly for asthetic purposes. However, I was debating between the Malestrom and the Haf 932. Will I notice a significant difference in temps/cooling by going with with the Malesrom(the line graphs don't tell me much. Basically, am I better off spending the extra money)?
Anyhow, those are all the questions I can think of for now. Thanks again for your time/help!
-WTKB
P.S. Sorry for any spelling/grammar errors, I am having problems with spell check atm.

did you check out the buying posting guide?
you are headed in the right direction, but you didnt pick a cpu cooler, thats a no no
i would avoid the OS tweak especially if you plan to use this computer for work
as far as the cooling, i dont know too much about that case, but as the guide says, really there isnt a gigantic difference, so unless youre willing to do anything to get that last degree cooler, pick the case you like
using a tv as a monitor is never a good idea, you will kill your picture quality unless you get a signal converter, i think those are more expensive than a decent monitor, but i dont know honestly
(tried to remove the os tweak but the configurator wouldnt let me)

Thank you very much! I really appreciate your time and advice/suggestions. I will definitely include the cooler for my final rig. I will also opt out of the OS tweak, and I will do some shopping around town for a monitor(was just trying to cut costs since I already have the T.V.
).I did read your entire guide before posting, and I think you did an amazing job with it. After reading it, I came away much more informed then I was(so I thank you for that as well ). Have a good day man. Thanks again! -WTKB |

Thanks again man for all your time and help. I really do appreciate it. I had a couple more questions if you have some spare time. I read through your guide again for like the third time just so I could retain all the useful information in there (as you could probably tell from my OP I was tired the first time I read through it, and didn't remember half of what I should have). Anyhow, I really liked your changes in the suggested build you made for me. I went ahead and saved a new configuration based on your suggestions and a couple tweaks of my own. Ticket #: 438310. My budget hasn't really changed. However, with the replacement of the old base mobo on the configurator, I am under the impression that the new one has features I wouldn't need/utilize. In the ticket number referenced above, I selected a cheaper mobo that didn't include the aforementioned features. Is the mobo I selected in my new configuration still adequate enough for what I am looking to do? Will I notice performance loss or anything of that nature by going with the cheaper option in this case(I am under the impression that I will only be losing USB 3 and Sata 6, but I just wanted to be sure)? Ultimately, which mobo would you select if you were in my shoes? The only other changes I made were influenced by your guide. Those changes include the following: Chassis(decided to go with haf 922), no OS tweak, no speakers, the 40g intel SS HD + 500g Mechanical HD, and the Noctua air cooling you suggested. Again, I really appreciate all your time and advice man. The DS community has been beyond helpful, and as the time to order draws closer, I am getting more and more excited . With all the support you guys have provided in these forums, you should be getting sales commissions lol. Overall, the great atmosphere and wealth of information present in these forums has made me feel exceedingly comfortable/confident in my purchase(no doubt in my mind that I will end up with exactly what I am looking for). -WTKB Edited by WTKB - 07 Sep 2010 at 6:41pm |

everything looks pretty good but i dont know much about that board, based on what i read it tends to run a little hot, especially on the north bridge, and claims to only support ram up to 1333, so that could hinder your ram overclock, not a huge deal, looks decent over all but im not sure it justifies the little bit of saved money, thats up to you

Will do man. After being a customer service supervisor(for nwa.com) for almost 2 years, I know all about the 'wealth of complaints' and 'lack of thank yous/recognition'
Take her easy man. I'll be sure to let you know how everything pans out!
