    Posted: 20 Jul 2012 at 9:22pm
Hello all, I'm building a new rig and will be doing a clean install of Windows 7 on it. The old rig has Vista and a whole lot of different programs and various files. I'm looking for any advise you can give me on do's and dont's of file conversions in regards to different programs, game files and game managers like Steam and Origin (EA). Any and all advice would be most welcome as I am about 2 months away from having all my components together for the build. Just received the SSD (Intel 520) today! Big%20Smile

I'm primarily interested in any step by step information that may save me a whole lot of grief. Thanks in advance. Cool

You should not have to worry about any file conversion, but, make sure you don't use any auto transfer programs, just manually install the programs on the new PC and transfer your data.

Once again Alex, U DA MAN! But, I have a question concerning no file conversion. I know that Vista and Window 7 are backward compatible but isn't there a file extension change like .xxx or something?

Also, for programs that have been downloaded from the web like ESET, Malwarebytes and Registry Mechanic, will these typically cross over with the data transfer without having to reinitiate them through their homesite?

Okay, thank you very much for your technical wisdom. You guys are the best! I actually struggled with the dicision to build my own rather than return to DS for my second rig since my first has been so great. But I had a dream to build my own and I intend on seeing it through! That is of course if my wife doesn't kill me first. Oops
