Topic: After many hours of angsting Posted: 22 Sep 2021 at 3:02pm |
So after weeks of angsting, building, rebuilding and gritting of teeth I pulled the trigger.
I've built all my own systems since the days of good ol' 386sx and some of my builds were wired up like the inside of an airplane fuselage. I've been limping by frankensteinnig cast-off equipment for the last 5 years, able to play some and totally unable to dive back into 3D Rendering but no more! Because work and home are busy I decided I wanted to have someoen else put it together for me. I realize the Hydrolux Pro system will require some maintenance but I think I'm up for the task. Plus, I want the Graphics Card life to last for a while (hope hope hope). I stress them out and work them pretty good and on top of that I get tired of trying to blow and clean out their grills and fans. I have a 500GB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe on it's way through work channels having read the recommendations and I have additional storage to throw at it. Wait, wait, wait! You don't have anything to control with that Corsair Commander do you? The fans are Cooler Master with a remote, and the Corsair won't do anything for the Hydrolux I don't think. Check with DS, they won't steer you wrong, but I think you ordered a part you can't use.
I know you have other storage, but I'm not sure you want to take up an M.2 slot with a SATA part. You don't have to get another NVMe, but you may want to look for another drive that doesn't use up a slot. Other than that, you're going to have the rig you've always wanted, I think! |

Thanks! I called them direct and confirmed. We took the Corsair Commander off and I had them build with the Samsung 980 Pro instead of the DS M.2. That'll save me some time cloning or reloading too. I have 2.5" SSDs I'll put in for storage. I can use the other NVMe from work in my oldest son's Streamer rig for his birthday. Edited by SilverClawD - 23 Sep 2021 at 10:27am |

What a great trade-out! Save a little cash and avoid all that annoying cloning on your new rig. Son gets a great upgrade! Good idea. @hoserator: Thanks, chief...(blush) |

I recieved a ship notification from Estes this morning for a freight shipment and front door service of an 80 lbs. package. I haven't seen this reflected in my DS account but I don't have any other freight shipments pending or in the works. Could this be my Digital Storm PC??????

Sadly, I don't have the equipment or the patience to try and do a proper unboxing at home because I don't have my own space. Even so it was a pretty smooth experience. Nothing out of place, no bad connections, filling the resevoir easy and painless, and no leaks that I can find.
I did have two things that gave me a bit of pause. 1) I could not get the air out of the system to save my life, so I poked at the DS chat crew who told me I should drain and refill it. I was perplexed because to my eye it looked like the pump was set to run based off temps and even if I drained it and refilled it it just wouldn't get the air out at it's current speed/pressure. Despite the air, and it was only in the upper portions of the tubes bringing water into the blocks, temps were good and things were circulating. So, I poked around in the BIOS and found the CPU fan was where the pump was plugged in and rather leave it on Auto I turned it to "FULL". That did it. That and a few shut downs and time while I set stuff up and transferred my larger storage drives. Still a bit of air in there but it continues to find it's way to the resevoir. 2) I started up Ark to see how things would run and then Borderlands 3. During both of them I heard weird beeping, almost like my keyboard had a key pressed down, overrunning the buffer. It was coming from the area of the computer, or so I thought. Turns out, when the video card was really working hard the wattage was hitting the upper limits of my UPS's capability and THAT was what was making the beeping/error. Fortunately, I have another UPS and two dedicated circuits over by my desk for servers and network equipment. |

Very nice! Enjoy. As to the air bubbles, just keep on using and they will bleed out. On a new system the radiators will hold some air that will be flushed out with use. CCall DS and get more coolant. You will be using it every once in a while to refill the reservoir.
