Acer GD235Hz is a bust. The thing buzzes at 120Hz setting. Most especially on a dark screen. Suggestions? Looking for matte finish, 23". (i7, 280GTX GPU) I'm on online newspaper editor...maybe should look at IPS instead of a 120Hz gaming monitor anyway...or just a great 23" monitor for text. |

I hate to buy Dell, because I like to think I'm cool -- but that does seem to be the one.
The girlfriends and the family don't notice anyway. |

23" U2312HM, 1920 x 1080, 16:9 aspect ratio 24" U2412M, 1920 x 1200, 16:10 aspect ratio Is the 24" significantly harder to power? Is it that much better in terms of viewing satisfaction? |

It will not matter at all to the gpu for your work since you are not gaming, your gpu is not really gonna get used at all no matter which monitor you go with.

sorry for posting in your topic Trench. I have a similar question. is the Acer 23" G235H LCD Monitor ( 1080P HD ) good for gaming? Its res is 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz. Is it the same as 1900 x 1200? 60Hz should be fine right? what are the difference better 16:9 and 16:10?

Most important thing about a monitor is its panel, right now there are 2 major ones, TN and IPS, IPS has superior picture quality/clarity.
the acer is an inferior tn panel. |

1) 1920 x 1080 is not the same as 1900 x 1200. Because they are different numbers. 2) I said my Acer G235H buzzes like a bee. Curious that you ask me about it's gaming potential. 3) 16:9 is 1920 x 1080 and 16:10 is 1920 x 1200. In effect, the latter has additional vertical height. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. In addition, here's what I found on another forum, if you're interested in HDTV: "Basically the difference between a 1920 x 1200 and 1920 x 1080 are the 120 rows of pixels. I prefer 1920 x 1200 monitors. However, I did buy a 1920 x 1080 for my HTPC because when it is connected to whatever HDTV I intend to buy both HDTV and the 1920 x 1080 monitor will have display the same desktop (clone mode). Since HDTVs are 1920 x 1080 (except the really low end HDTVs) a 1920 x 1080 monitor will display what is also on the HDTV without the black horizontal bars." |

You can't get an IPS for $200. The Asus I ordered cost $500. Someone can recommend a $200 TN panel. |

i saw the ASUS ML239H 23in IPS Widescreen LED Monitor is also not a bad choice. do you recommend this? This would be slightly cheaper than the dell.

@iCheck, That is not as good as the dell. The Dell ips panels normally have a higher processor for best picture.
@Trench if you want to drop $500 on a 24" you should have gone with dell u2410 its a better monitor then the asus you are thinking about. that the PA246Q has a 10 bit processor and the dell has a 12bit processor. Edited by DST4ME - 14 Oct 2011 at 3:20am |

Which one, the one you mentioned? if yes its specs are lower then the u2312. its has lower brightness, lower processor, why do you think it cost $100 less than the u2312 after discount.

Hey DST before confirming to buy my monitor tomorrow, can you tell me the difference between an LCD and LED monitor? Does LED mix well with IPS? and does it mean that a good processor will have a better visual quality or a better responses time? I don really mind about the brightness being 250cd/m^2 or 300. Is there any other brand ISP monitor that are cheaper out there, since most of the people in this forum use dell(good track record), and you highly recommended it as well, i was thinking that maybe there are other brands of monitors out there that have the same specs as this one but with a cheaper price. I'm a bit tight with my budget.(final confirmation)

Out of curiosity, what made you swing for the Asus? I've never seen that model in person, was just wondering if you had a chance to check one out or something. |

Problem wit the PA246Q is that it has a 10bit processor, for the same money you could get the dell u2410 with a 12bit processor.
@iCheck, better processor means better picture quality faster. but response time is bs as I mentioned already. you should care about the brightness and other aspects, just like all ssds are not the same, all isp panels are not the same, cheaper ones won't have the performance and image quality of the better ones. |

The aforementioned Acer buzzed -- and, buzzing aside, I didn't see any diff with the 120Mhz thing. The Asus left me underwhelmed -- the images are not, you know, rocking my world in a night-and-day way, and I don't want to task my video card extra for the extra few inches of vertical real estate. So I'm back to a 23". DST, do you recommend the UltraSharp u2312 over any other 23"? I'm 50% gaming/50% reading text for publication. Should I go with a superior TN model? |
