Greetings to yous. I am about to pull the trigger here in a matter of weeks and will be gettng an air cooled HAF932 tower. Now i have a bit of a sqeeze on my situation on placement. Allow me to briefly explain.
I am making the downstairs of my house (coolest part temp btw) an entertainemnt room. The only spot i can place my gaming station for the pc is in the corner next to the big screen tv. Here's the kicker.... I only have about 32" <---> to work with. I will most likly bulid myself a simple double tiered desk to fit these accomidations and my question for the tower is this.. I will be putting the HAF932 case up on the second level of the desk and i want to know how much room i need to leave from the case to the wall so it gets proper ventilation.
Also, its not going to be an actual corner piece so i will be placing this desk flush against the wall to my left and to the back. The desk itsself will be about 40" deep but that number i can play with. Its the width i am restrained to 32". Thanks!

Do you have an frostchill cooling system with a radiator? If so, ask about how long exactly the case will be with it... If that fits your desk width, then I think you should be fine, the radiator is what I say should be a fairly good, though not perfect, distance that should be allowed for cooling.
Well, if the thing is too long for your desk, you can always try swapping the HAF for a Raven case.... Those things primarily vent air out at the top, not the back, so back-ventilation isn't an issue. Cables still can fan out through the back too, so it'll still look neat. Just make sure you have some clear room below for the big lower air intakes. If you do, make sure you replace the factory fans, including the dual large 180mm fans that intake air from the bottom. Also, if you order a fan mod from DS, add some 120mm dust filters, the side intake fan that DS supplies accumulates dust (the 180mm's come with case mounted dust filters). I don't think DS replaces the 180mm fans with the fan upgrade option though, just the 120mm's, so you'll have to get that yourself. i've a raven myself and the nice thing about it is that the 90degree mobo flip does a really nice job of cooling, since the air blasting at it from the 180mm is able to flow around and past any and all expansion cards instead of just blowing at the top mounted one like the way mobos are normally mounted. Alrighty thens. First off, i won;t be able to do a LC system, so the noctua's will be the main cooling of this new system. I don;t think i will have need for the dust filters since i can maintain the dust by doing a simple sprits of compressed air. My only issue is where i want to put the tower and how much space i can play with from the wall without choking the air flow. I could put some shelves up on the wall, i could build a second tier to the desk or whatever. I just need to know how far apart from the wall i have to allow proper ventilation. Again, i'll be using the haf932 case with noctua coolers. Not a big fan of the dust filters since it does create more heat but i'm always up for ideas. :) Thanks!

if you leave 3 or 4 inches around the case, that should give you enough airflow.

I have a similar set up and I've got about 4"-5" behind my HAF 932. It works just fine and my case temps run anywhere between 27c at idle to 35c under my somewhat light load. You'll need at least that much clearance anyway unless your video cable/ power cords have 90 degree connectors.
As to blowing the intake fan versus filter....You'll be using a lot of compressed air...I live in a brand new energy efficient apartment with double paned windows and such. I clean my intake grills about twice a week. I still can't surmise from where the dust enters my apt., but it does. Remember, HAF means "high air flow" and they are NOT kidding...
I, too, am limited for space and have all my TV, Sound sytem, HAF 932, DVD player, etc. at one end of the room; and my monitor, keboard, mouse, at the other end of the room ( ala workstation). It call for longer cables and I suppose an extreme gamer might notice lag times with this setup; but it works great for me.
I like to sit back and light up after a satisfying foray into cyberspace, and this setup keeps smoke, coffee, snacks, etc. away from the heart of my system.
DST claims one can use old pantyhose as a filter for the intake fan and the love of my life gladly contibuted same for me to try....I guess you need to make a frame or something to use them with the HAF case. Haven't figured it out as yet. And since the front fan ( the one with the red led) is also intake, it creates a real problem for filters, with all the plastic bric/brac etc...
Just some more input for your situation...hope this helps....JPT Edited by jaypeetee44 - 09 Mar 2010 at 6:04am |

Awesome, thanks a bunch :)
I will have everything setup against the corner wall there. Picture the letter L and turn that 90 degrees clockwise. Welp that settles it. Time to hit the drfting boards. Thanks fellas :)

Derp, i forgot to ask this question as well lol.
For the bottom, i noticed many if not all of the towers are raised about an inch or so with "feet". If i were to put this on a shelf, would it be beneficial to drill out several holes and/or cut out a recangular piece and then put a mesh screen so that it can improve air from the bottom? Would that do anything? This is for the actual shelf unit to dril out the bottom btw.

honestly I wouldn't even think about it. as long as you don't place it inside a enclosure, just place it where it is convenient for you and enjoy it.
