The downside to the HAF case is that it's a dust magnet. I had to improvise and use some odds & ends from around the house. I cut up a old universal air filter for an air furnace. Wire tied the two plastic pieces together with a Air conditioner filter in the middle. And then purchased 4 push fasteners to hold it in place. It is temporary. I think I have a nice idea for making the filter easy to remove for cleaning. Utilizing the holes in the side panel maybe making some brackets top and bottom so I can just slide it in place. Which will make it easy to remove and wash.
I have been monitoring the temps and I don't see any increase in the system.

Not at all, The filter is an air conditioning filter which is really thinner than what the picture makes it look like. and the cells of the foam are open . you can see through it pretty good. Edited by titusmckieus - 02 Feb 2009 at 2:43pm |

Its clearly see through, I must think on this and look into a way to make it more pleasing to the eye. Since I plan on using the HAF and I would rather avoid the dust and cat fur I know that side panel is going to attract.

titusmckieu, the HAF is not a dust magent, any pc with a fan will be collecting dust, the filter you have will limit or heat exchange both in and out and can make your case have warmer temps. Now your temps are good and that is great news but it will not be the case for everybody, what is your room temp?
also that is just one fan, what about the rest? are your temps underload? Edited by DST4ME - 02 Feb 2009 at 6:40pm |

I am planning on keeping mine in the basement, its cool down there and I will keep it that way. Also most likely have a air purifier around it(not for the PC, I like it). So heat and dust should not be that big of an issue for me.

Yes I know , This was just laying around the house so i used it
I understand fully that any PC with a fan will be, and does collect dust. but this case collects a lot more dust quicker than other cases. and shoots it directly on the mobo and everything else. within 1 week there was more dust on the side panel then my other computers collected in a months time in the same environment. I never suggested that this is what everyone should do .If they did they would need to take in account their own variables
I'm not worried about keeping every speck of dust out. it is just one fan , and a very large one at that
I have been monitoring the temps for 3 days now and none of the temps have changed outside of 1 degree both at idle and load. it seams to be exchanging heat fine. |

The haf is a dust magnet compred to other cases. Anyone that owns one knows that. The air filter mod is awsome I may have to do that. Currently I have unplugged the side fan and notice no difference in temps. You could also add one to the front pretty easily I think. Wonder if I could find a clear airr filter thats easily cleanable? Where did you get the cage to hold the filter?

you never told us your room temp, if you have a dusty place then all the airflow that HAF is so famous for, will carry dust, there are many people who's HAF is not a dust collector cause there is no dust to collect.
This must be the fist time I find myself apologizing for big fans and high airflow in a computer case
Well if you found a solution that is great for you, I personally don't like it, but to each his own, what matters is that you are happy and if the filter is a solution for you then I shake your hand and say "enjoy". I do have to say, for a filter solution it is a good one, I just don't like you calling HAF a dust sucker, cause its not

Conditions here are ,well..... not computer friendly, wood floors stink. I would rather have the case on top of my desks but i just don't have anymore room no matter how hard i think of how to do it i just cant see it happening ![]() Edited by titusmckieus - 02 Feb 2009 at 9:39pm |

It was part of a universal air furnace filter that the previous home owner left behind. although i am keeping my eye out for another option that is more appealing to the eye |

You could always paint the cage green so it matches the interior lights.
