The current issue of MaxPC (for those of you that don't subscribe) reviewed an Alienware M17 laptop.  The nicest thing they could say about it was that the finish on the laptop resisted fingerprints.  Smile

The icing on the cake was when they compared it to a Gateway laptop reviewed back in October and said that the Gateway, "delivered better gaming performance, and cost $350 less".  SmileSmileSmile

My personal feelings about Gateway aside - They might make solid computers but it's still a slap in the face to Alienware.  When shopping for a gaming rig, I'd imagine Gateway doesn't usually make the short list.

Seriously though.. after my girlfriend's 4ish year old Dell laptop finally died she used her parents' new Gateway laptop (they never really used it) for a while... it was actually a very solid little laptop.

It was by no means a gaming rig but it was still a solid little machine... I still prefer DS for my gaming rig/high-end system needs but more power to Gateway for building a solid little machine that's resonably priced Ermm...

Of course I'm currently looking into looking into DS laptops as she's now in the market for a new one. Ouch

On my trip to Miami to pick up my DS system, my brother bought this gateway baby: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827

I honestly think it's the best laptop money can buy for less than 1500$. UT3 flies in this thing. And it's also pretty heavy duty for all 3d tasks, like 3dsMax & Autocad (that 1 gig of mem can't hurt!).

I have a 6 year old Gateway P4 desktop. It's had a few upgrades over time, and still runs fine - for what it can handle.
With the exception of a bad optical drive 2 years ago, it's given me zero problems.

However...I'm totally excited to be ordering a DS rig next month!! Confused
