Digital Storm Dreadnought Gaming PC

Budget:
$3500

Expectations:
Future proof, must be able to blow away xbox one and ps4

Usage:
Gaming

Saved Ticket #: 881523

It's at $4000, my budget is only around $3000 but in order to have the best of the best without breaking the bank I'll go $4000, however is there anything I don't need or can downgrade? I was thinking the processor, the audio, the hydrolux board and lighting and maybe the noise suppression. I'd like to get it the computer down to $3500. I am waiting till Christmas to order because I'm hoping prices will come down a bit.

Some other things

I am worried about the cooling I mentioned this in my last post on the config forums and HAFX was recommended, should I use

AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 Extreme Performance

OR

H20: Stage 2: Corsair H110 280mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler

I have never had liquid cooling on a computer. I read about it that some liquid cooling is sealed, and some you need to refill once a year, is this about right?

I've read that GPU ram doesn't stack for SLI cards, is this true for all video cards?

Can I use a flat-screen tv instead of a monitor? I've read that cheap monitors have a bad refresh rate and that can mess with gameplay fps.

The warranty, if the computer breaks do I have to pay shipping coming to DS and leaving DS?

Thanks for your help again guys.

Here's a much better way to spend your money: 881536 $3667

No need for a 6-core CPU unless your doing heavy video or 3D editing. Also, 1600 RAM is more than enough for gaming. I also added a SSD as your primary drive to boost boot times and speed up overall system operations. You can also add your main games/apps here to boost their boot times as well. The HAF-X is designed for air cooling so I would go with the Noctura. The Corsair H100 series are closed looped water coolers and are zero maintenance but the Nocutra has less parts to fail. The HAF-X also already has massive fans so no need to upgrade (maybe just ask under Special Instructions to add 1 more 200mm fan). The large fans also negates the need for noise reduction - the large fans turn slow and are very quiet. I put in the SuperClocked version of the Titan so no custom boost is needed. Also had them do a Stage 1 CPU boost which will increase all cores (not just one as the Intel Boost does). I kept your audio card and Hydrolux thermal + lighting control. You might also want to consider using Win8 - It's designed more for games with the full DirectX 11.1 support.

Hope this helps!!

Good Luck!!

To answer your other questions:

1. GPU VRAM does not stack. If you had 2 6GB Titans running SLI, you still only have 6GB of VRAM.

2. Usually a TV has slower refresh/response because of added processing to the video signal. Some will have a bypass for this. Cheap/bad monitors have cheap internals causing blurry motion. You'll see this just the same on cheap TVs.

3. I know you pay shipping to DS during the warranty period (except the first 45 days). Not sure who pays for return shipping (Alex - you out there?).

On that build you have a z87, I know the x79 motherboards are the latest with the new 2011 sockets. Will the z87 last awhile in terms of upgrades? As for the 6 core processor I've heard the same thing about it from other places, as what you said. However will a 4 core processor last a while? I've heard the motherboard and processor are both hard to upgrade.

The Z87 (1155 - Haswell) just came out this Summer and is a brand new socket design. the X79 came out last year and the newer processors for that series are still based on last years designs. A socket will usually last 2-3 CPU generations before being changed.

It depends on the situation but generally the customer is responsible for all shipping costs after the first 45 days. Digital Storm takes care of all of the part/labor costs, etc... depending on the length of the warranty.
