Hello All,

So I'm almost ready to make the purchase, But my dilemma is this. Last desktop I bought was 5 years and 4 days to today, mother board went out And the components in the old one have been obsolete for some time.. Anyhow. Below is what I've been considering, My question/s are, is this a decent build for $2,500 or are there components I don't really need or could use less of?  I mostly play FPS, some online games as well. I havent' even been able to play like skyrim or or crysis 3, Far Cry3. Just was waiting for the old one to desktop to die.
Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated
Thanks, CBRD

The only real changes I would make are the PSU & SSD. Go with the EVGA NOVA 750 - it's modular meaning should you ever need to replace it, you won't have to rewire your entire system and it's got a better/longer warranty. The Samsung 840 Pro is preferred by most of us here simply because it offers slightly better performance and reliability over the Neutron GTX.

You may also want to consider using the Noctura over the H100i - better reliability and will cool the CPU equally (but this is more of a personal choice and either way is a good option). I would also recommend Win8 over Win7 as it has better support of games (DirectX 11.1) plus better overall system efficiency. Finally, if you're looking to save a few bucks, go with the Gryphon mobo instead of the Sabertooth - both provide the same capabilities just fewer card slots on the Gryphon.

And don't forget your FREE t-shirt!

OH crap! forgot the t shirt!!! Thanks for the reply/opinion.

Interesting that you picked a couple of items over corsair, I was under the impression that corsair was on the upper side of things or just Youtube hype?

again, it's all appreciated!

The Corsair CX Power supply isn't modular, so you have cable clutter for unused cables. Both EVGA and Corsair have good a reputation for their quality.

As far as the cooler, it is a personal opinion. The H100i moves the heat to the radiator and expels it from there, but its pump is an additional point of possible failure. The Noctua expels the heat from to the interior of the case, but only has a fan(s) that is easily replaceable.

The ODE case is made by Corsair, there cases focus on liquid cooling for the most part. If you go with the Noctua, I would suggest you switch to something like the HAF X case.

The ODE case should be fine for the Noctura - Arwen had a build on here a while back and that's what she used without any issues. If you do decide to go with the Noctura, be sure to ask to have any additional front intake fans added for extra air. Some people don't like the humongousness of that air cooler and go with the the closed loop H100i. Both will be equally good at cooling the CPU.
