Currently considered configuration for a Digital Storm Krypton:
CPU: Core i7 4800MQ Cooling: Premium Compound RAM: 16GB DDR3 Drive 1: 240GB SSD Drive 2: 750GB 7200RPM Optical Drive: Blu-Ray player/DVD+/-RW Wi-Fi: Intel AC-7260 Video: Nvidia GTX780M OS: Windows 8.1 Pro However, I have a question and a concern. Question: Is there anywhere on this site where I can find the exact tech specs of the various laptops that gives me more details as to cooling, ports, weight, etc.? The photos in the galleries tell me some things, but not everything I'd like to know. I still see some possible advantages to a Carbine, but I just don't know enough to make the right decision. Concern: I am not seeing much advantage to ordering a laptop during the Black Friday sale instead of waiting for another sale down the road. The only real advantage of doing it during Black Friday would be for the extra year of warranty service (past sales extend it to 4 years), but since the extra warranty doesn't apply to laptops in any sale I've seen, there's no incentive there. Why do the warranty extensions not apply to laptops? Difficulty in supporting laptop hardware? Not even a 1-year extension as opposed to 2-year to reflect this? While the extra warranty would have had me pulling the trigger today, I don't see any clear incentive at this point to ordering a new system while my current laptop still functions well. Secondly—and admittedly not much of a concern, more a curiosity—why no game bundle on laptops either? At this point I'll probably continue to watch and wait and see what new configuration changes show up every few weeks or so. I just wanted to get it out there that you might see some laptop sales pick up if there are incentives similar to those on desktops, if not necessarily exactly the same. I really like what Digital Storm has to offer. Thanks. |

I'm not a DS employee, but Alex might be by later. Other than More Info under the various picks in Config, that's pretty much the info on the site.
DS builds their desktops from bare bone, so have more flexibility on pricing when it comes to promos. The laptops are primarily Clevo/MSI built laptops that DS distributes. My guess is not as much profit or flexibility to offer price incentives. I could be wrong and Alex will let us know.

Roykirk,
We would love to have you as a customer and thank you for your interest in Digital Storm! - For more details on each model, I would recommend the "More Info" link on the chassis section once you're on the configurator. In terms of number of vent ports/etc the gallery would be best for that. - Ultimately, all of the laptops cool well for their chassis. The smaller units will run warmer than the large 17" units. - Warranty specials don't apply because those are ultimately from Clevo, and if we extend them, we won't be able to offer the price discounts. It's difficult for our desktops since we're not tied to Clevo or MSI for the bare bone shell. - The free game bundles are only from NVIDIA on their desktop cards currently. |

D'Oh! Didn't think to look there. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for pointing my oblivious self to the obvious.
Thanks for that information as well, Alex. That clears up why the extras aren't offered. I'm sure you'll have me as a customer eventually, but I'll probably wait still as I'm not in great need for a new one yet and since the various warranty extension offers won't ever apply to laptops, it won't matter when I order. Thanks again. |

No problem. The discount that is available on the laptop won't be there for long however.
