The issue isnt with the CPU it is about the Motherboard chipset and the I/O performance deteriorating over time (without a reboot). They are already using revised chipsets 9e.g. fixed) and replacing ones already sold. In my opinion you can either wait a month or so until the MB's are all updated or you can go with a X58/ I7 9xx processor.   The latter would be a travesty since the replacement for that processor and chipset will be available by the end of the year... Of course AMD is the only other choice in town, if you call really poor competition a choice.

Here is what everybody needs to remember, the sata 2.0 ports are effected over 2 years of use, that means you can use your 2 intel sata 3.0 ports for your HDDs, and I would use the sata 2.0 port for the dvd drive, new mobos are out in march, so you will never notice any degradation by then, and in march one way or another you swap mobo and that is it.

lol I'm gonna have to paste that all over this section I see.

guys read DS's response here, they will swap mobo for you free of charge when the new one comes out

I would want to send them my machine.

I could only imagine the damage i could do to all the other stuff if I where to swap out the mother board.

What im really worried about is the H70 and the thermal pasting, etc. Oh well, they said they would cover shipping so that sounds like a good idea! :)

Now, I placed my order last night (actually would be early morning Feb. 1) so based on what was posted, I qualify for the options given (extra year warranty and the option to send my system in for the replacement motherboard). That being said, I can imagine there will be a ton of traffic to their facility around that time... So personally, I would not want to bother if everything was working. Correct me if I am wrong... But my warranty would cover me if a related issue caused my optical drive to degrade or if the other 3.0 ports had issues that have not been discovered yet? Basically, due to my scarce use of the optical drive, I may just use the system as is, unless I run into problems.

Exactally

Thats my plan to

Assuming that the 6.0 Gb/s slots dont have ANY issues, and its just the 3.0 Gb/s slots we both should be good.

They said that if you use the drives ALOT then over 2 years you will see slower performance..  I dont use it at all, so i assume that the timeframe is longer?

We should be all set.

Yeah, that is my train of thought also... I will only use my disc drive initially to install all my programs (games, antivirus, etc). After that, it will literally be dormant as I even have Rift pre-ordered as digital... So that will not require that drive to install once it is released. Same goes with World of Warcraft, Itunes, and many of the other programs I will be installing (digital). I guess I hope there are no adverse affects to the motherboard as a whole down the line as the years roll on by that is not discovered yet. Otherwise, I can roll with the initial mobo's and probably be just fine. Like I said, if my warranty covers me for this stuff if it does crap out on me, then that is all I need. I am looking at a three to four year cycle (max) to replace this system anyway. I want it to run well for at least the three years, then it does not matter because I will buy a whole new system at that point.

Correct, having the optical drives on the SATA 3G ports will basically ensure you never encounter any issues.

and keeping the PCH cool, and lowering the PCH voltage a bit will also prolong the life.

Well the only issue would be that without a mobo change you can't add any more drives, other then that, you are good.

Well, in my case, 1TB is more than enough. I just would like to upgrade to solid state in a few months after getting my system. I am thinking a 120 or 160GB SSD would be just right for me.
