Hi first time posting on this forum,
Does any know of a good alternative to the X17E gaming laptop sold by Digital Storm. I've been waiting for it, but with the uncertain release date coupled with my now dying computer I really can't wait any longer. I looked into the X17, but i would really prefer to have desktop processor because apart from gaming i spend plenty of time rendering things in programs like Maya, Photoshop, and Unity 3d. Another deal breaker for me is the sli or crossfire configurations gotta love the extra power especially for gaming. Even more awesome would be the bragging rights. Back-lit keyboard is also the coolest thing, but sadly not a must. Really these three are the main things that I'm looking for right now in a laptop, well maybe not the back-lit but hey like i said it's like 10 different kinds of cool. Another thing is also the price i was kind of hoping for $3000 and under. the closest thing that i can find right now is Clevo X7200. But Digital Storm doesn't carry that or not that I'm aware of. But that case (X7200) also seems pretty old and the upgrades from the other resellers that do carry it are ridiculously overpriced. Help would be highly appreciated, Thank you in advance to all those willing to help. |

In all honesty the X17E which is based on a Clevo unit is having issues during testing and we don't want to offer our customers a sub-par product.
The X17E is the only laptop with a desktop CPU, however, I do wish to state that the X17 with the new Ivy Bridge CPU line is definitely very powerful, especially for gaming. Gaming in general does not use a ton of CPU cores or even resources compared to graphics. I understand the X17 does not come with SLI/CrossFire however you don't really need that much power on the laptops screen. A new replacement unit based on SLI and a desktop CPU is estimated towards Q3/Q4 of this year, which is far away. We'll be one of the first to offer the X17E based Clevo unit once it is available.
