Hi,
I'm really tossing and turning on this pre-build.Thinking my lack of knowledge about memory speed in relation to hard drive rpm's, front side buses, the prossesors capabilities or what ever i'm missing led to a wasteful setup.
I think that before speaking to a sales person i'd try posting my concerns with hopes for some advise.
I do home video and sound editing and share the computer with my son a serious online game player. I would like to add another 22" monitor to the setup
and have 2 monitors running during any video editing is being worked on.
Any help is a good thing and thanks to anyone offering me any.

a few suggestions.
drop the raid. the velocirator is fast by itself. you may want to change ur second HD to something a little bigger for personal files and storage. also i would change to vista home premium. if you plan to OC your processor i suggest Liquid cooling for the CPU rather then stage 2, you will get a better overclock. also you may want to consider a larger PSU if you plan to add another GPU down the road.
other then that , you and your son will be very happy with that config. I know DST4ME will have some other suggestions for you , so look out for his post.

Hi,
Thank you
I really feel good with your sharing your thoughts and your concern.
As to the resolution during his game play, I'd say, now he uses a older samsung syncmaster 213T @ 1024X 768.... I'm shure his computer can operate at a much higher rez....... as for the ticket # I'll have to switch computers and then post it. About 64 or 32 bit vista your imput might help me worrying as to copatability issues with my art and video programs. I'd imagine that adobe photoshop has updates online and pinnacle likewise but I'm still abit fearful about the money part of replacing fairly costly programs
thanks again Gary

Most apps work on vista 64 bit there aer very few that might have a probelm and that is due to drivers.
Otherwise 64bit can run both 64bit apps and 32bit apps, if an app can't run in 64bit you can just install it as a 32bit and run it. If you are not sure any particular app let me know and I can check it for you
I will wait for your ticket number

The only problem your going to have with 64 bit vista is with really old hardware. Most apps work as 64 bit has a 32 bit emulator built in. Anyway only thing that i have that doesn't work on vista 64 is my Pinnacle Dazzle DVD Recorder (DVC100)

Thanks, I've changed things around abit .Already owning a Klipsh 5.1 the only other add on is a sound card . I used creative cards for many years and besides it hoging space with unnessesary stuff (splashscreens, midi, and other stuff) that all can be removed, I do plan on the fatality pci-e edition. I like the idea of it having onboard ram. I've check the asus and other companies site and they too look nice.
this is the ticket # for my updated config. 203534
here it is pasted just below. Ive been looking at pollywell computers they have a customable i790sli system. Do you have any info on Pollywell? Thanks alot ......jtspectra....dst4me.....and harleyman..

after looking at all the other companies, I don' see anybody else treat their customers as DS has, so I don't trust my money with anybody else other then DS.
this system is better and you had some misconfigs here you go Ticket# 203757 --- Price: $3557 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Power Supply: 860W PC Power & Cooling (ESA Edition) (Dual SLI Compatible) Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz (1333MHz FSB) (12MB Cache) Motherboard: nVidia 790i Ultra Core 2 Quad (nForce 790i Ultra SLI) (DDR3 Only) System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz OCZ Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive 1: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive 2: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Raid Option: - No Thanks Hard Drive 3: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Wireless Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 1GB) (Includes PhysX Technology) TV Tuner: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: Air Cooled Stage 2 (Silent Artic Cooling Heat-sink Upgrade (Copper Heatpipes) Internal Lighting: Blizzard Internal Lighting (Green Edition) (Cold Cathode Tubes) Modifications: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks my keyboard comes with a mouse External Storage: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty you are very welcome, if you have any questions fire away

4ST4Me, you helped me and I thank you, but once again I have juggled things around the blue print is what I've changed .I could wait for a ticket # but I feel a bit
drawn to posting . It,s fun and a new experience for me.850i case, Corsiar brand memory, tweak the memory, added Asus soundcard, removed one video card, added 22" veiwsonic monitor ......... that all. I'll get it soon, this is a bit of foreplay.
and who dosen't enjoy that.

Speaking of waste - it would be a waste not to go with HAF case.
And as for your own tweaks, any reasons for going w/ one 280 instead of SLI? Your budgets already in SLI range.
Sound card is debatable so im not going there, but i know for sure you can get a better deal on LCD at other retailers.
PS; Speaking of money, i would look at LC for CPU if i were you, you will never regret getting it. Edited by Nomak - 10 Nov 2008 at 2:15pm |
