Budget:
$2500-$3000 Expectations: Faster w/Better Graphics than a high-end Toshiba laptop (that I currently have - Qosmio X770) Usage: Silent Hunter 4, Sims 3, Ghost Recon series, Bioshock Infinite (not out yet), flight simulation - plus the overnight crunching of prime numbers via PrimeGrid. Also a few graphics programs like Poser Pro 2012, Photoshop Extended, and Cinema 4d Prime. Saved Ticket #: 647249 Specifications: * Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) * ASUS P8Z68-M PRO (Intel Z68 Chipset) (Features Intel Quick Sync Technology) * 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) * 800W Corsair GS (Dual SLI Compatible) * 2x (750GB Seagate Barracuda (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) (Model: HD-ST3750528AS) - nonRAID * DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) * Wireless PCI 802.11n Up to 300Mbps (Supports 802.11n/g/b) (Model: 3FMPCIMWN-R) * 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 3GB (Includes PhysX Technology) * Integrated Motherboard Audio * AIR: Stage 2: Corsair A70 Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler * Upgrade Chassis With LED Performance Fans (Red) (Up to 6 Fans) * Noise Suppression Package Stage 2 (Optimized Airflow & Fan Speeds with Noise Dampening Material) * Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) * Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) * Advanced Recovery Kit (40GB Hard Drive Partition of Image With OS & Drivers) * Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Two questions: a) Is the power sufficient to handle the config? b) Would the overclock generate enough heat to warrant liquid cooling? I love the look of the Dreadnought case. Has that "I'm not here to do Powerpoint" image quality to it. Edited by Raptor22ADF - 23 Jan 2012 at 3:16pm |

The pros will come in here in a second and fix this rig, but seriously, do noooot do the 590. My friends has died once, and my BF3 looks better than his and doesnt catch on pretty much identical systems (2x 570s here). Also, SWTOR has been unplayable for him since launch basically.
I have a Noctua DH air cooler, and my CPU never gets above 55 C, so you definitely don't need closed circuit liquid cooling. A h80 or 100 would look better inside but blocks some of the airflow. If you're just doing a single video card setup, feel free to use one of these instead as it won't really make a cooling difference. The design of the HAF-X is such that i can't really see a noise suppression package doing much, its incredibly open. Its also very quiet anyway. |

So…
Substitute the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 3GB Classified Ultra (PhysX) (EVGA 03G-P3-1595-BR) for the 590? I like lots of capability that I wouldn't have to upgrade anytime soon. Edited by Raptor22ADF - 23 Jan 2012 at 4:21pm |

A70 and noctua are king in performance till you get to stage 4 lc.
h80/h100 are not real lc systems as in they don't give you lc perfomrance, at best they match the noctua d14 temps, I would recommend to never go with those self contained coolers. with the a70 or d14 oc temps are no issue. I see your monitor has a res of 1920 x 1080, for that res the 580 classified is a waste of money, actually for any res the 580/classified is a waste of money. if you want to max out your res in games you need/want sli 570 which will beat the 590 and eat the 580 classified for snack. your config is not your money well spent and has contradictions, for example the led fan upgrade is loud and then you adding noise package, those two work against each other, and make no sense, you dont need fan upgrade, and noise package just slows down your fans and takes away from airflow, and at best gets rid of 10% noise which is nothing, if you want led fans on haf let me know, it needs to be done in a different way so that you get led fans but no extra noise. also most of your noise is gonna come from gpu's fans when under load and the only way to get rid of that is to put them under lc. your config is around $2800, for $19 you can have this config that will eat your config for snack and it has better performing more reliable parts: Here you go Ticket# 647566 --- $2,819 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (Intel P67 Chipset) (New & Improved B3 Revision Without SATA 3G Issue) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1050W Corsair Pro Silver 1050HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 320 Series) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Corsair A70 Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans: haf 200mm non led fan Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc. My pleasure
if you play games like batman or other games that need more vram just change the sli 570 in my config to sli 570 2.5GB version, it will add another $100 to the price. |

I changed the config a bit: Ticket #647736
Does anyone make a higher-res 23" monitor that also has a non-glare screen? |

You raised the cost of the system and lowered its performance, not good.
for recovery, if your hdd goes bad then your recovery is gone, which is why I gave you the win7 cd instead. as for monitors we all like and use IPS panels from dell, many of us have them, we range from u2410, u2411, u2412, u2311, u2312, to u30. I currently have two Toshibas that put the recovery on a partition, so it was what I am used to. I can see your point, though, about having the CD instead. Will flip back to that.

Keeping it simple is the key, with the cd you can do all kinds of stuff in the worst case scenario.

I clicked on a slightly different config, the one that starts at $3000. I changed the drives and the OS, but otherwise kept everything the same:
Ticket #: 647799 Though I said $3000 was my budget, I can actually push that to $3500 if necessary. |

thats not good at all, go back and read what I said about the cpu coolers, gpus and etc, you need to change the mobo/psu/cpu cooler/gpu/hdd in your config# 647799

Different config - 648184
Why is the 580 a waste of money? Details, please. Found this nice review @ Overclockers Club. Their only complaint is the price. I intend on upgrading my monitor soonest. Edited by Raptor22ADF - 26 Jan 2012 at 1:54am |

Hi Rapter,
You are all over the place picking the wrong equipment and making poor choices. Every time you do another profile you solve some problems but create others. For a 1920 x 1080/1200 monitor resolution DST4ME recommendation is the system you want. It has all the power you need with the best power supply and GPU you can buy for the money. If you think you need more GPU power for non-gaming then get the 570 2.5Gb.
Do your self a favor and take another look at DST4ME"s system. Any changes you make to that system is a mistake except for the 2.5Gb GPUs. Now if you just want to spend more money for the same performance then that is your choice and have at it. Frank |

Hi Raptor...... Your quote " Found this nice review @ Overclockers Club. Their only complaint is the price."
What the guys are saying is that the price IS the problem. There's nothing wrong with the 580, in fact most that have them will praise the performance. BUT, for the extra $150 you're getting only marginal if any performance increase over the 570. The people that praise the 580 would also praise the 570 for the same reason and have extra $$$ in their pocket. If you want the 580, then it's your $$$ and your ultimate decision. Sometimes a personal preference does come into play. Here, best bang for the buck rules. DST's build is tops. Good Luck Edited by bprat22 - 26 Jan 2012 at 9:10am |

Question: why do some of the motherboard options say "without SATA 3g issue"? Is that just a simple way of saying it doesn't support 3g SATA or that something is wrong with 3g SATA?

Hi Raptor,
Good for you, that will be a super system. I do suggest you pass on the OS tweak. What they do is disable, turn off or delete software that they think you won't use. The problem is they don't know what you might want to use. They could disable something you need or just want to use and it won't be there. For me it is a lot better to get your system, set it up like you want and then clean up what is not needed. Don't forget to order your free T-Shirt and adding the fan to the top of the case. Nice system. Frank Edited by FrankW - 26 Jan 2012 at 4:39pm |

Okay... no OS tweak. Gotcha.
Does this fan that is recommended replace some other fan, or is it to insure better airflow? BTW, what keyboards and mice are you all using? |

The fan adds another fan, total of 2, to the top for best airflow. The keyboard and mouse I use are cheapo Dell's so can't go by me. I need to upgrade the mouse. I'm getting killed in BF3

I always have MS mice on my systems -- even on a Mac. Did you know their Intellimouse Explorer, once marketed for business, is passed off as a gaming mouse?

If I substituted this for the Cooler Master 942 HAF X, would anything change in the cooling config? |

A bit different config in a different case:
#649185 I have a 560m in a Toshiba laptop right now and it handles things pretty well (the CPU, alas, is only a 2ghz quad). |

laptop is a whole different ball game, you can't look at that and get any info whatsoever for a desktop.
congratulation, you just cramped yourself and parts with lack of room and lost lot of airflow comparing to the haf x. No but seriously go back to haf x, its not even comparable to that case, its a no brainer. I don't understand a few things, why you keep changing the ssd to a hdd for hdd1? change sli 560 back to 570, it will not have the same performance, and it may come up short in vram for some games. |

I have an SSD in my MacAir, and I'm used that. But with a big desktop, I just kinda sorta felt a couple of big drives are the way to go.
When I order this thing, the SSD will be back in there. Old Fogey, I guess.
