Pretty interesting, will definitely like to see how this competes with the intel.

I agree. I may have missed it in the article, but is there an estimated release date?

we need faster cores more than we need more cores imo. that obviously goes for amd and intel

no, we need a lot more cores, 20+ right now. speed of those cores is not really an issue. The reason behind this is what I have been yapping about for a year now... Reverse hyper threading.

reverse hyper threading..? whazzat?
EDIT: just read what i guess it is...ooo, so it's sorta like a CPU array in a die, in contrast to a disk array. Edited by ablahblah - 24 Aug 2010 at 5:45pm |

basically it takes the left over cores that are usually sitting in the corner and puts them to work making things go faster, has 2 cores act as a single logical core

The 6 more cores than mine, probably 3 times more expensive, 15% more performance. I think AM3 plus mobos will come in middle Q2. Bulldozer somewhere in Q3.

I'll admit that I am partial to Intel chips, but look forward to see if AMD's new offerings can compete, when it comes to number crunching. My apps want as many cores/threads as possible and as much speed and possible.
Anyhow, a few questions, not being terribly familiar with AMD. Will there be MoBo's for dual chip CPU's ?
When will Intel have 8 core HT chips available?
It would be nice if MoBo's were available for dual Intel i7 chips. Will this happen, or does one have to use the clearly more expensive dual Xeon chips for absolute top number crunching ability?
Thx .. neilkaz ..

dual 1366 socket boards exist, only one allows for overclocking, the EVGA sr2 to run two cpus' you need to run Xeon's for dual QPI link. you can get a xeon quad for around $250. each, hexacores, still $1000. lol I posted some pics in the news section of 8 core, 16 thread Intel CPU's working. wobn't be available for a while though.. Called sandy bridge.
