Independent of market share, NVIDIA has a practical lock on the graphics circuitry market. Comparison computer shopping therefore can involve some detective work. AMD has been at work for decades, usually in Intel's shadow. I ordered my DS tower / desktop w/ an AMD graphics card, an experiment on my part. My thanks to AMD and DS for providing the discerning consumer some choice. And as this is my post #1, greetings DSers. I'm the tower. Nice to cyber-meet you.

There was a time when I did not recommend AMD (and ATI) products. Those years have long since passed. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you get your rig. Also welcome. |

My very first discreet GPU was ATI. About put me off GPUs forever. Poorly optimized, barely worked and such a PITA to get right with all the (toggles/switches)... oh heck, can't remember what they were called... my mind is going.
Anyway, that was 20 years or so ago... when I installed my GTX1070 it was as easy as changing a lightbulb, so yea.. things have changed. |

In 2010 when I ordered my first DS, I bought the Radeon 5870. At the time, it was the 4th fastest card around, and I had no need for 1&2. It was a workhorse for me for 7 years. It is good to see they have come back into such strong competition. The AMD 5700 beats out the 1070 Snaike and I have and still costs a bit less. Nvidia needs that pressure given where their prices have gone.
