Is this program necessary?  It's always running and automatically starts when I re-boot my rig.  Is this program important to keep around?

The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer utility is a driver that synchronizes the time stamp counter on both processor cores and improves game compatibility and performance.

The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer utility could possibly be the rumored “Reverse Hyper-Threading” patch that would improve single thread application and games performance by having dual-core processors show up as a single core processor in applications. AMD has declined to comment on "Reverse Hyper-Threading."

AMD’s Dual-Core Optimizer utility version 1.0 is available from AMD’s website. The utility release notes shows it as being released on March 22nd, 2006 which is strange as AMD has made no mention of the utility publicly. The utility also installed on Core Duo and Opteron systems.

If it does what it says it does, yes.

My suggestion would be to run a small benchmark test with it on and off.

If you could please post the results?  I am curious as well.

What does DS have to say about this program?  I don't recall downloading it.  Alex, Kelly, was this loaded on my rig when I bought it?

After looking around, it really seems like a "hotfix" or update for a computer.

The FPS of every game is increased a significant amount with the "hotfix" installed.
Taken from notebookreview.com

XP has a similar hotfix out, they just do not give it a fancy name.

It "fixes" or optimizes a computer to use multiple cores more efficiently.

AH, gotcha.  I guess I won't concern myself with it then.  It gives you the option of running demos of how it would look while optimization is on.  Nothing fancy, just mini demos.

Thanks for the info on that.  I really didn't know if I needed it or not.
