AMD or Intel?

I've unfortunately not been able to follow a lot of the latest computer news etc.  But is there a reason that everyone here is choosing the intel chipsets over AMD?  I mean, price not withstanding i don't really see an advantage of one over the other.  Is it the graphics cards that you can place with them?
 
Any insight would be appreciated, thanks in advance guys.
 
Keep in mind, my computer literacy is at an all time low at the moment :P
