I am new to CPU overclocking but the slowest part of my system is my CPU. I was hoping for a 2.8 GHz overclock but I can get to 2.6 GHz. Even with this the computer only seems to boot up half the time but when it does the overclock is very stable and the temps are quite low. Any suggestions to both increase the frequency and make the computer boot successfully all the time would be much appreciated.
my system
AMD 9550 unfortunately at 2.2GHz
4 GB Corsair 667MHz
Nvidia XFX GTX 260
Standard CPU heatsink
Asus M3A motherboard

I've heard AMD is not very good for overclocking and that the chips can burnout rather easily if you up the volts even a little above stock (which is probably what you would need to do in order to achieve a stable OC). I would be very careful! If you want to continue to try to OC your CPU, call DS and have them walk you through the BIOS settings so that you can minimize the risk of damaging your CPU while choosing the correct settings.

ok thanks, I'll stop messing with it. Any chance AMD is making its next line with the AM2+ socket?

I would buy an intel chip but the board does not support intel socket 775.
