Would any of the computer gurus here consider equipping a new gaming system with the 1800X instead of an Intel chip? I've never considered using an AMD chip but I just saw an article on futuremark that states it competes very well with Intel's 6950x at < 1/3 of the price. What gives? Am I missing something?

What's missing in the equation is that for gaming, the 7700k with its much better clock speeds, beat the larger cores and threads the Ryzen chips offer. More cores and threads don't matter much in gaming and benches I've seen show the Intel 7700k beating the 1800x by 20-30 % and even higher in games.
Some think the more money you spend and the more cores the better it is for everything. Not so. Not for games. The Ryzen are for multi core applications that would make use of the AMD strenghs. As AMD tweaks their new chips I'm sure performance will improve but Intel still rules in gaming for a lot less money than the 1800x. ![]() Edited by bprat22 - 14 Apr 2017 at 11:04am |
