New teases say the Ryzen 7 2800X could be a 10core 20 thread CPU at 4+ Ghz. Supposedly they are saving as Intel is going to be releasing an 8C/16T Coffee Lake cpu.

AMD reported earnings up over same time last year and looks to be generating a bit of a buzz in the market. They kind of took some of the steam away from Intel (which is good news). If only they could do the same in the Video Card space to keep NVIDIA honest too...

Yep. Intel is still the better company. But Ryzen really closed that gap. It close on IPC's, but when it's cheaper, with more cores and it's only losing by a a small percentage... who cares. lol
Intel has to work again. They aren't happen. Now if only team red did light a fight up under nvidia. (Which FYI... apparently there's some big stuff happening with the next gen GPU's from AMD. I'm waiting for some leaks to see what's up.) |

I heard that about AMD and next gen GPUs. However, how many times have we heard that song and dance. I honestly root for them and hope they can pull something out of their proverbial butts as I like them as a company more than NVIDIA but in the GPU space, they've seem to be a bit more behind. We need them to be strong so it saves us cash and creates at least a decision point between the two brands. Here's hoping they break through on that end too!

I know... I always get excited for AMD releases. Someone's gotta stand behind them. I mean, I never buy their products, but god I want them to release something that shakes nvidia like Ryzen did Intel.

Yeah, the last "AMD" video card I bought was actually ATI. I did have an AMD processor on my old PC (which I kept for 9 years before this DS machine). We can always hope!!

I haven't seen the ryzen 2800X yet but the Ryzen 2700X is out now. Here is a link to AnandTech. I put in the Ryzen 2700X vs the Intel i7 8700K. Even though the ryzen has more cores 8 vs 6. Looks like the i7 8700K is still better.

It is. But not by much. The 1700x was on par with the 8600k. So the 2700x is on par (give or take a few percent) with the 8700k. The biggest differences we see between the two is at 1440p gaming. Hardware Canucks have a great video about this on youtube.
Intel IPC has been greater than AMD's for more than a decade. AMD makes up for it in multi core utilization. It's a use case type of thing. |

My buddy works for AMD. He said Intel is sandbagging and has tech up their sleeves to be released whenever they want to. AMD Ryzen is good for consumers because it causes Intel to release their tech sooner. Even if you don't purchase Ryzen, you are benefitting from their presence in the market. As far as Nvidia, another friend who is an employee at Nvidia said even the employees don't know when the next gpus will be released. They have trouble keeping products on shelves so have no incentive whatsoever to release their next gen products.

Yea, it's always been that way.
As for the nVidia (kind of ironic how you have all of these friends that work at these places), but we don't need them to tell us when it's going to be released. Nvidia follows the same trends. Once you start to see new gen GPU's being leaked from sources at their Korea/China factories... you can start to build a pretty solid time line. Same goes for AMD's GPU's... just no one cares about AMD GPU leaks. And there is incentive. GPU live spans stay the same, regardless of GPU mining. I guess there's always the chance that they'd do something different finally after a decade+. |

I mean, I did briefly consider AMD gpu just because Freesync monitors are so inexpensive but in the end it just made more sense to go with Nvidia. Although, AMD's gpu market share is actually a lot better than I would have thought.
