Hey guys,
I need to pick up a laptop for my mom for Christmas, somewhere between $800-$1000. It's a bit too late for configuring one online, so I'm sticking to Best Buy on this one - visited a couple of stores in my area and, while I like this pink Vaio, it's a bit out of my price range. I've been looking at HP Pavilion systems, and saw one for $849.99. Specs are pretty basic, but it does have 2GB of RAM, a nice 14.1" WS panel, i think 160GB 5400RPM hard drive, Vista Home Premium, built-in webcam and mic. Looks like this but a different config: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv2620us-entertainment/4505-3121_7-32716539.html?tag=sub Only thing is, the processor is a Turion 64 x 2 TL-58. I've been looking for a Core 2 Duo, based mainly on my experience with higher-end systems and anecdotal information about their superiority. For a low- mid-end system, will this chip be functional/fast? Are there any weird performance/compatibility issues? She definetely won't be doing any performance gaming Most likely checking her email, video chat, word processing, etc. I'm inclined to just take it - seemed nice and responsive while I was at the store. Thanks in advance, Chris Edited by thecomplex - 15 Dec 2007 at 9:56am |

Didn't look at reviews, just laptops in your range that could be ordered online and sent to store in time for Xmas.

Thanks sundowner.. I'll look into the Toshiba, although I can't shop at Walmart.
Anyone else know of any glaring problems with the Turion? Chris |
