Hey Guys, I've been stalking this forum for a number of months now, and have somewhat of an odd request and to a few of you it may seem a bit silly. However, the reputation of Digital Storm is phenomenal for it's PC's and awesome community. I got married on March 30th of this year, and the wife and I have been looking at houses. Of course, this put me into an instant "Man Cave" planning mode. I already have a centralized gaming set up for the more modern stuff, so I'm looking for a PC build for Emulation/MAME gaming. Granted a bit more modernized than the classic style cabinets, but I'm sure some of the older gamers get where I'm coming from. I'm asking you guys because I've had bad luck in the past with typical "Store bought" PCs, and even though I'm sure this won't take much for a gaming PC compared to today's standards, but at this point, quality is key and I want this to last a while. Especially while staring down a looming Mortgage payment...haha. Basically, a PC that will house the cartrage era of gaming. Thanks! |

Well, to start with.. what kinda of budget are you looking at? Which systems have you looked at and prefer? There are many that may fit what you are looking for. I would say an i5 with 4 GB would be a good starting point..

Hmm, I would contact Digital Storm directly about that. I would imagine that it is something that they could do, though I am sure the cost would skyrocket really quickly depending upon the cabinet/casing you have in mind. I'm not sure how thorough you are planning to be, I have seen some that are just computers hidden inside of a box with USB controls, while others were completely parted around the cabinet.
If you aren't looking for the whole "look" then a very basic rig should do what you need, and without the bloatware of big box brands, I could solidly recommend a DS rig for your purposes. |

haha, I'm not looking for a full cabinet build by any means. I'm just not sure how much PC i need to fluidly run the games. My plan was to slapdash a cabinet together with some USB arcade sticks and call it day. I'm really wanting to conserve as much money as I can with this. I'm really not expecting to spend a whole lot just to get some old SNES/N64 type games to run smoothly.Edited by Webb - 18 Jun 2013 at 11:38am |

Gotcha!
Me and friend did exactly that about 10 years ago, its far cheaper than paying someone else to built you a fancy cabinet. ![]() I would recommend the Vanquish Level 1 (699$) it has hardware that will more than suit your needs, and it also comes with Windows 7, which I believe is still more supported in the emulation community right now. |

Sounds like a plan, Tidgxor. It'll be a while, but I'll post photos once I get it tossed together. (Side note: I've been looking all day for a moment to say "slapdash". It's been a good day.)

The Vanquish won't be going anywhere.
I really think its the best deal for your needs, plus you get the solid backing of Digital Storm. Definitely better off with the level 1 Vanquish than with a big box that costs 1/2 the price, in my opinion. And slapdash is a good word is it not? ![]() And definitely do share those photos, I don't think we've had anyone build a MAME/etc. rig and share it here on the forums before. ![]() |
