Thought about the Mushkin. I have Mushkin in my present PC with tight timings. But they only had a configuration of 6 1GB Dimms of 1333, and I may want to go up to 12 GB at some point. Corsair Dominator is excellent memory too, and 1600 means it passed that particular Corsair speed test, so the IC's should be great. I payed more obviously, but I am happy with it. I love the way the Dominator heat spreaders look too hehe.
I could have went with Mushkin 1600, but I want to see how Corsair Dominator actually performs too. The price was nearly the same for 1600.
Now don't rain on my parade...lol.
BTW, when I called DS today Sarah answered the phone. I only spoke with her long enough to ask for Eric, but I think I am in love. :PP

wait did you ask them that the 6GB configuration is in 2 x 3GB or 6 x 1GB and they said its the 6 x 1GB or are you assuming that its 6 x 1GB, cause I was under the impression that they always do 2 x 3GB, not to mention that you can simply request DS to use 3 x 2GB kit by Mushkin.
BTW I mentioned the 1333 because you won't notice the difference vs 1600, then I mentioned Mushkin for timing and the fact that they test their rams for DS before they send it so that there is less chance of a failure. Edited by DST4ME - 23 May 2009 at 3:05am |

Actually, when I tried to order the 3x2GB Mushkin 1333, I was told by Eric Grigsby that they were phasing out the 1333, and all that they had left was 6x1GB. You think I was hoodwinked? You think he lied? It seemed odd to me, but I believed him. Was I fooled?
This is important to me, so please put your allegiance to DS aside for a minute, and answer with what you REALLY think.
Can any DS people clear this up for me?

I doubt eric lied but not sure why they would be phasing out 1333 and I'm sure if you requested the 3 x 2GB they would give it to you.

That is what I requested. And that is what I was told.
I am not unhappy about the Corsair memory, don't get me wrong. Eric seems like a great guy too. I never meant to imply that I thought he lied. I do not know what happened. I am sure he told me what he thought was the truth (right or wrong). Perhaps that is what someone else told him.
I really want to like this company, and to have a great experience with them. But if I was somehow mislead, that would not be a good start. It just doesn't make sense that they would phase out the 1333 memory.

Eric is a good guy, I have talked to him before, perhaps there was a mis understanding or maybe Mushkin is giving them good prices so that for a very little difference they are getting the 1600 so they figured why say pay $300 for a 1333 when you can get 1600 for $340, if that is the case then I can understand why why they would be phasing out 1333.
also I want you to understand that comparing corsair with Mushkin, is like comparing Toyota to Honda, they are both great cars and have great quality, can't go wrong with either. corsair is a great ram, they only reason we recommend Mushkin here is because of the testing Mushkin does for DS before they send them their ram, however no matter what you have a 3 year warranty so if something does go wrong with either you are covered, also the timing should be the same so in short you are not missing anything by going with corsair, so there is nothing to feel bad about. I'm sure you were not mislead, after being here for then a year, I have not seen them operate that way, they are good guys which is why I spend my time here helping their customers, cause this company is a good company and worth it. don't let none of this get you down, there is nothing wrong and maybe like I mentioned they have a good reason for phasing out 1333, I mean in all honesty you won't really notice the difference but if the price difference is $40 then the 1600 is the way to go unless you are on a tight budget. |

I have decided to definitely stay with 1600 DDR3 ram. My question is, which model of Mushkin 3x2GB 1600 sticks does DS use? There are several models. Most have different timings.
6-7-6-18 (Red Heatspreadders)
6-6-5-18 Redline (Red Heatspreadders) Not likely
9-9-9-27 (Blue Heatspreadders)
8-8-8-24 (Black Heatspreadders) Most likely.
7-8-7-20 (Black Heatspreadders)
A few more. But they are unlikely.
Does anyone have these in their system? DS can you fill me in on this? Model numbers off the sticks themselves would be great.

Corsair DOMINATOR on the other hand, has 1 possibility...
8-8-8-24
For the Mushkin to have a lower cost, which it does on the DS config page, it would have to be the 8-8-8-24, the 9-9-9-24, or even the 7-8-7-20. Anyone have a model number?

Anyone that has Mushkin 1600 3x2GB in their system can look at the model number off the sticker, or get it from CPU-Z. |

well thats assuming that DS uses the same model each time, however they use different water blocks, dvd drives, etc.
now having said that I think their 1333MHz is 9-9-9-24 I think the 1600 might be 9-9-9-24 also. Edited by DST4ME - 24 May 2009 at 7:04am |

All these "digits" are facinating...really...and I'm showing my ignorance for asking...but, just how important (or...much of a difference) is there between any of these (aside from the [color ha, ha...] and necessity of matching if adding additional sticks)? Kind of tongue-in-cheek...but, are the "timings" less important from an overall gaiming perspective...than say, the fact that DS warranty's them? Edited by Zardoz8719 - 24 May 2009 at 10:51am |

Not alot of difference that you will see in games (1-5 fps). But, in general, at the same frequency (1600 mhz in this case), the lower the numbers the less latency the memory has (quicker timings). So, 7-7-7-20 would be faster than 8-8-8-24 at the same frequency.
However, sometimes a higher frequency is better. For example, at 2000 mhz even a 9-9-9-27 may be faster than a 7-7-7-20 at 1600 Mhz. Just depends on the memory stick itself.
Since I am comparing Corsair with Mushkin, both at 1600 Mhz, I was curious as to what the timings are for the Mushkin sticks that DS uses in their systems.
A lot of people do not feel this is very important. And it really isn't. But it is to me because it interests me.
In the end, I am sure I will stay with the Corsair Dominator memory that I have ordered. But, it would not be unlike me to change to Mushkin simply because of better timings. The warranty is the same either way.

"well thats assuming that DS uses the same model each time, however they use different water blocks, dvd drives, etc. "
While this is true, the great thing about DS is the fact that they will get you whatever you want. In the case of memory, there are only so many models to choose from that Mushkin makes. I doubt DS changes memory models as often as they change dvd drive models.
In fact, DS has already promised me a certain part that most people do not even know exists, or why there is a difference. DS rules.
"I'll be putting my faith in (DST4ME and) DSO to plug in all the right parts for me"
Not a bad idea. I have read very little from DST4ME that I disagree with. But I would bet that there are some things that I am aware of that he isn't, and vice-versa. Edited by Vipersneak - 24 May 2009 at 4:18pm |

the timing does not make that much of a difference between a 1333 with good timing and a 2000MHz with good timing you will see 1 to 5 fps but that is it.
below can see the difference between 6667MHz and 1600MHz ram is like 4 fps.

Thanks for taking the time to explain...
And you're absolutely right...it's the consolidation of ideas/wisdom/experience that make this forum work--nobody knows everything...and some like me know little...but, we all benefit from the exchange of knowledge.
And as for "DS rules"...I totally agree!

That statement shows you know more than you give yourself credit for. :)
