I am 12 hrs. prime (blend test) stable, as Justin said I should do, with a vcore of 1.1000. High temp was 55*C. With LinX temps get to 58*C.
My question is now that I got this overclock would it benefit me to get the 1600 ram and overlcock higher? All I do is game and watch hulu LOL. If you think It'll do something for me I'm gonna go ahead and order the Corsair Ram you recommended (sadly not the redlines as $50 difference is just too much right now).
I'll post my current template:

Man that vcore and max temp make me jealous as hell. I should try nudging my vcore down a bit since I got one of DS's generic 1.34v 3.75GHz overclocks.

Yeah I'm wondering if I should just leave it be for now. I don't know how much a 3.8 overclock would benefit me (what I am thinking of shooting for). I was also pondering a 4.0 with HT off. So what temps are you getting at load with your NH-D14? I love that cooler. Like the looks of it and it supposed to cool like a monster.

OK so I guess I should just leave it be then. I kinda think OCing is fun in and of itself but if it doesn't do much I ain't gonna mess around right now.
Thanks Justin! I look forward to more Drunken Monkey updates.

I have benchmarks posted up on page 2 and 3 of this thread. RealTemp reports a maximum of 69°C after 10 passes of LinX, with the processor at 1.35v and 3.75GHz. |

@ dragonseal That seems real good to me. Nothing wrong with those temps in my mind. I do remember your thread now. Went through the same thing with the 3x sli and NH-D14 only i decided the other way and went 3X Sli and Nh-U12P. Wish they had a smaller vreg heatsink but oh well.
If you still wanna cool the northbridge more you could prolly throw this at it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835209017&Tpk=antec%20spot%20cool.
I was thinking of throwing the spot cool at my vreg and/or northbridge if/when I overclock further. But with the haf having that big fan on the side you prolly don't need that at all I'm betting.
Anyways man, nice set up!

That is more or less why I haven't bothered yet. The HAF 932's side fan is blowing right on the PCIe lanes and northbridge, plus the Noctua NH-D14's fans are hugging the northbridge covering half of it. All in all it looks like it makes a little wind tunnel over it from air sucked in from the side and front fans sucked through and around the Noctua NH-D14, and out the case's back and top exhaust fans. High Air Flow indeed, I love it. That said however, I haven't actually taken any temps from it. Anyone recommend a good program for checking northbridge temps and a good way to stress the northbridge to check max temp? My first thought would be to run MSI Kombustor to max out the GPU while simultaneously running CrystalDiskMark or AS SSD Benchmark to stress the SSDs, but I suppose there might just be a program to specifically stress the northbridge. |

But the southbridge has to pass through the northbridge as well, yes? I'm concerned about the southbridge too, but since the northbridge has to pull together most everything on the motherboard and has always had to have the most cooling available to it of all the chipsets I worry over it more. Luckily my HAF932's side fan blows on the Micro's southbridge even better than it does on the northbridge. I've found one drawback of the Micro is that it does not have built in northbridge or southbridge temperature monitoring through Windows, so I can't see load temps. About all I can easily do is stress it hard to see if I can make any of it crash or error. So far so good though, no issues after multiple iterations of many different benchmarkers and stress testers. All I have left is Prime95, which I haven't gotten around to yet because I rarely ever have a 12 hour period in which I'm not using my computer available. |

regarding the nb/sb temp sensors, all Evga boards are that way. |

Alright finally got around to running Prime95. Torture test completed, blend setting, 12 hours, 0 warnings, 0 errors. Neither HWMonitor or RealTemp report any unusually high temps anywhere.
I'm pretty well satisfied with that, I don't know what I could do with every day use to overheat/crash the NB or SB that these benchmarkers and stress testers don't. I do find it interesting that my CPU max temps have already gone up 3°C since I got the computer, I guess I'll have to break out the canned air already. |

Yeah I didn't think you were going to have any problems with the NB. Your max cpu temps may have just gone up due to it getting spring time?

Possibly. The AC settings have been the same the whole time but this room does heat up faster than other rooms, especially with the new computer. I bought a window AC recently, going to install it some time this weekend, so room temps won't be an issue after that heh.

Justin I filled all 6 dimm slots with mushkin 1333 9-9-9-24 RAM for 6 gigs. I had decending gflops in LinX so i had to raise vcore 2 clicks to 1.118. I look good gflops wise now. I put CPU VTT @25mv. Do you recomend I put back to 0 or raise it up some more? all other settings i have kept the same.
EDIT: dimm and vtt are indeed within .5v of each other with my current settings Edited by AndydViking - 06 May 2010 at 7:57pm |
