We were surprised to see that the Bloomfield generation of CPUs will officially support DDR3 800 or 1066. Even the extreme edition 3.2GHz Core i7 officially only supports DDR3 1066 and not faster. There won't even be an official support for DDR3 1333 not to mention 1600 or faster.

not sure where these guys got their info but bloomfield is to run:
Dual and Triple channel DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600 MHz having said that, we tell people all day how little ram speed makes a difference
now the same site also says: Nehalem overclocks to 4GHz+ Written by Fuad Abazovic Monday, 25 August 2008 09:28 On air We’ve learned that the 3.2GHz Nehalem can easily overclock all the way to 4GHz or more, on air. If you use water or LN2 you are in for much higher speeds, but the initial 4GHz+ gives you a clear idea that Nehalem will be as overclockable as the Yorkfield generation of Core 2 Quad CPUs. This is a good news for all Intel fans, as good overclocking is slowly becoming a trademark of Intel’s high-end generation. We are not sure that slower clocked Nehalems will overclock so well, but at least 3.2GHz will. There are still some issues with overclocking, but since Intel won’t really launch probably before November, there is still time to polish them off. source (same site as your article) ok now tell me that the ram issue, even if its true, would trump 4GHz+ on air cooling ![]() Edited by DST4ME - 03 Sep 2008 at 3:55pm |

bloomfield xe is suppose to officially support up to 1333MHz DDR3. The rest of the bloomfields support up to 1066MHz DDR3.
1600MHz and 2000MHz aren't even standardized so who the hell cares and it's not like we need it either. A single QPI link is like 25GB/s and DDR3 @ 1066MHz in triple channel provides that. |

I can't wait to see some real results on a mombo that actually supports Nehalem.
