I was using norton for a while, but it's a pain in the arse and it would slow my old comp down.
I decided to switch to mcafee on the new comp, i've had no problems and it doesn't seem to slow everything down. Obviously there are better choices though, maybe some of the forum members can tell you about some other programs.

thanks for the advice...
A new problem... Playing an online game and sometimes I get a "Device not working properly" then it fixes itself after 1 sec or 2. It makes the game freeze for a sec, Now I'm getting tears on the screen in the graphics.. I have an 8800 Ultra Part 2: I click to open my Control Panel and I get nothing, a small empty box opens up and thats it. Also when I right-click my Desktop and select "Personalize" I get nothing...I think my control Panel is gone. Help? Edited by Sillen - 26 Jan 2008 at 4:04pm |

Kaspersky Anti-Virus
Both Norton and McAfee have horrible detection rates, and the software is bloatware. While nothing has 100% detection, Kaspersky seems to find more than any other AV I have used. |

mcafee is working great for me, they even use it at work on our network... it can't be that bad.

I use Kaspersky and love it. Avast and AVG are free and are rated pretty good I think.

I know many here HATE Norton, but that is what I have always used and it has always worked very well for me. The only problem I am now having is that it occasionaly seems to want to end progams like my windows media player or Linksys Advisor as it says that these programs are attempting to access my computer. I am thinking that it is more a Vista issue than a Norton issues. |

Personally I recommend that people try AVG. It's a freeware and they also offer a free anti-spyware as well. It leaves less of a foot print than norton and I have been on it for 3yrs now without a -single- issue.
