Here we go, time to bash some heads with another argument on anti-virus
I'm gonna be swapping antivirus soon. I'm sending my PC back to DS for a RMA and a tune up. The main glitch is the motherboard, which I'm swapping out, you know what that probably means, HDD Format! I have an image of my HDD, however, I'm not going to restore that if not necessary. Why? Because I have Norton installed right now *gasp*, yes, that antiviral suite that NEVER EVER comes out once you install it. The format's gonna erase it, soo, I'm now debating what kind of antiviral suite I'm going to install once I get it back... I've been highly considering ESET Smart Security, however, after reading so many reviews, the firewall is apparently super crappy. Norton Internet Security 2010 is looking pretty good now, but again, I don't think that'll ever come out if I instal Symantec again . I HAVE managed to completely rip out Norton before on an old computer, kudos to Revo Uninstaller, CCleaner, and regedit, but I dunno how easy it will be on newer versions on Norton. So what do you guys think? I'm open for any suggestions, since it'll be awhile till I'll have to do the actual installation. Edited by ablahblah - 23 May 2010 at 7:01pm |

Nothing wrong with either of them. I use the free MS Security Essentials without problems. It's all good...

I use Norton internet Security 2010. It won av comparatives in 2009.http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/summary/summary2009.pdf
Its $35.00 for 3 pc's http://www.amazon.com/Norton-Internet-Security-2010-1-User/dp/B002L7BR20/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1274667296&sr=1-1 It seems relatively resource light. I would use security essentials however I heard that windows firewall is not that good. |

lol who told you eset's firewall is crappy? its great, if people don't know how to use/set the app, its not the apps fault
so don't believe everything you read.

5 reviews in a row all said eset's firewall and rootkit removal sucked xD so what do you think gave them that idea? i'm gonna guess they jus ran it out of the box un configured LOL

I use ESET on one rig and have BD on another. My pref. is ESET, and their Firewall works great. Either Maximum PC or CPU Mag had a review of a lot of AV 's in their last issue. Both can be read on-line.

I have no clue what others are doing, I only know myself, and from what I see its a great firewall, if you set it right, it won't let the rootkit near you to begin with.

How are you setting yours up? I really did not do much to my ESET firewall....and it seems to do what it is meant to do. No issues, no problems so far. Then again, it may be that my surfing habits are extremely cautious and clean. |
