Budget:
[$2500 give or take $150] Expectations: [High End Gaming PC] I am interested in moving on from my gaming laptop to gain some real PC power in a desktop. I recently made a build over at ---------, but after reading many reviews I feel as though if I am not building my own PC (I don't know how), I feel as though Digital Storm is the way to go. Here is a sample build I made and if anyone has anything from DS that is better in their opinion or if I had any overkill with this build you're opinion is greatly appreciated. Heres the link to my first build: pcpartpicker.com/user/dgaleman/saved/Wfkj4D Thanks for taking the time to read my post Dave EDIT - Competitor name removed - Alex Edited by Alex - 08 Jun 2014 at 8:40pm |

We can't really help without knowing more about your intended use case. Why games and/or what type of games you play. What number and resolutions are you expecting for monitor(s), you will use it with.

Sorry about that, I kind play everything. I am currently playing Wildstar (MMO) and league of legends. But I do enjoy adventure games like Skyrim and such. I will be using one monitor at an 1920x1080 as well. Just all kinds of gaming basically.

That is a very nice build. It shares a number of features with my Slade. Unfortunately, I do not recognize all of the models by configuration alone. Would you please share the model name and perhaps the configuration number?
I notice that you selected a Blu-Ray player. Do you have a collection of movies on Blu-Ray that you enjoy watching on your PC? If not, you can save a bit of money by keeping the default DVD/CD player. |

Hi Dgaleman... The config number doesn't match the build you pasted so I'll give my advice based on the config #990250.
The z97-C mobo doesn't support sli, 2x video card. But, my advice for your single 1920x1080 monitor, I would drop the sli 780 for single 780ti. It'll saved you a bunch of money and still play great. The single 780Ti will max most games. The z97-c will be nice for single card. If you do change to single 780Ti, you can change power supply to a 850watt and still have plenty of headroom. Change the Seagate HDD to the Western Digital Caviar Black for another $19. A better drive with longer warranty. These changes bring you right to your budget without sacrificing performance. Hope this helps and good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 09 Jun 2014 at 3:14am |

I also have a question about the Devil's Canyon CPU. Is the difference between the 3.5gz and the 4.0 that much of a difference maker, and if so in what way. Thanks again

The new Devil's Canyon I7-4790k does have a much better TIM, thermal Interface material, to keep temps down during overclocking. It also has a decent bump in stock clocks, 4.0 to 4.4 Turbo vs the 4770k 3.5-3.9 Turbo. The added speed isn't a big performance gain but it is still a few percentage points better with certain games for about the same price. Plus, and I think, the Turbo 4.4 Ghz is across all 4 cores where Turbo is usually just a single core. It also has added capacitors on the chip to smooth out the power to it, meaning a more stable supply if it works as intended.
The i5-4690k Devil's canyon is less of a bump, only a 100mhz difference, but still has the better TIM. The better TIM is going to be more important for the enthusiast that wants to max out the overclocking, but it is still nice for a more moderate overclock if it keeps temps down. For the small wait in time until available, the i7-4790k is worth it. Newer, better temps, better voltage control for the same price. |

I agree with bprat22, you are better off will a single 780 Ti, then the SLI. Also, I would go with the Corsair AX760, it is a better power supply with 80 Plus Platinum rating.
The one concern I would have though is that the case might get a bit hot inside. The one exhaust fan is going to have a radiator in front of it. Though, the hottest components, the graphics card an CPU should both be exhausting most of their heat to the outside. It may not be an issue. But, I would suggest monitoring it once you have the system and if the internal system temperatures get too high, you can add a fan on either the top of on the side panel. |

Your configuration is very similar to my Slade, only with some newer technology.
![]() I tinkered with the configuration to incorporate some of the suggestions made by bprat22 and danjw1. Please review configuration 990840. The H20 CPU cooler is the same as my Slade. DS mounted the 120mm radiator at the top of my case. They may do the same with yours. I added the Corsair fan upgrade to address concerns about air circulation. I have this upgrade on my machine and my temperatures are fine. I also upgraded the memory to 16GB DDR3 1866MHz Corsair Vengeance Pro. It is a small speed increase, but it will help with any memory intensive programs. This build comes in at $2,731.00 so it is a bit of a stretch, but hopefully not too much of one. One last question? Do you play many games that use DirectX 11? If so, then you may wish to consider switching your OS to Windows 8.1. I have heard from other folks on the forum here that Windows 8.1 has some enhancements to improve support and performance of DirectX 11. Disclosure: I use Windows 7 Ultimate myself, but I have recently bought a copy of Window 8.1 Pro so that I can test the improvements for myself. Edited by Theokritos - 09 Jun 2014 at 9:35pm |

Wow thanks a lot okritos, that was awesome of you to make a configuration for me. I am believe I do play a lot of games that require directX 11 so I may have to go with Windows 8. Thanks so much guys!
