Hi folks. I'm curious on what your take is on the thermals for the recent Bolt X folks with newer CPUs/GPUs? I have a Ryzen 5800X and Radeon 5700XT myself.

Mine just arrived and I tested it under load–I have the extreme liquid cooling for my CPU. In individual component benchmarks, performance and thermals are fine. But when I have to combine those loads together like in a game that uses a bit of both, I eventually get a random shutdown and reboot.

The CPU gets toasty at 80C, but never much beyond that. Same with my GPU. I'm wondering if the PSU is the culprit. Doesn't look like it has all that much room to breathe in the Bolt X chassis.

Anyone else here with any issues?

Hi, thermals are always an issue with small form factor (SFF) cases. With new graphics hardware being physically larger and producing more heat, it becomes a challenge to keep it all running below shutdown levels.

That said, do call DS and tell them about it. They have dealt with this issue and will see what can be done remotely to avoid the shutdowns.
Meanwhile, hopefully some other Bolt owners might chime in with their experiences.

Keep us posted and good luck.

I was just tipped by Stellar that my tempered glass severely cuts down on thermal efficiency. They're sending me an acrylic cover, which has some milled holes for more air flow. I'll gladly make the swap for better thermals, but it's a damn shame I'll lose that beautiful glass look.

I hope this does solve my random reboots with certain games, like Forza or Cyberpunk.

Maybe you can take the glass side to a specialty shop and have holes cut in it once you see where they were placed in the acrylic panel
I have a Velox that came with a fan attached (option) to the acrylic in front of the gpu. That is not an option anymore. Some past posters have shown special cutouts (this particular had the holes cut in hexagonal shapes) in the clear panels and they look great.
Maybe you can add an additional fan in the acrylic facing the works to throw some additional air into the case.
Let us know how the temps improved, Good luck.

I just received my BoltX yesterday. 5900x / 3080 Founders. My temps so far have been really impressive for a small form factor case. I ran Time Spy and the highest core temp I saw was 67C. It idles between 40C and 50C. Graphics card max temp was 81C with idle of 37C

The biggest problem I have seen so far is with popping and cracking audio. I had to set set pcie to gen 3.0 in the bios to make that stop. Supposedly, AMD is releasing a new version of Agesa next week to fix this.

I am also hearing a noise that might be coming from the AIO. Might also be a fan, not sure yet. If it is the AIO it is hopefully air that will work its way out. This is really a beautiful system. It's for my son and I am holding the system hostage until I figure out these issues. Really torture for him. :)

I did a little digging and apparently, tempered glass can't be cut or altered once it has gone through the tempering process. No lasers, waterjets, mills, nothing. The whole panel will simultaneously shatter upon attempt :(

But, at least I'll have the acrylic to use just in case. I might head to a glass shop and make a glass replacement from scratch with the hole in mind before they temper the glass. Could be a good mod experiment

Here's the weird thing with my temps. Under synthetic loads, it handles everything fine. The temps are under control. But under gaming load, when the CPU hits 40% load at most, the temps reach high 70's or even over 80C. It's very weird. I can't imagine the air temp inside the chassis getting that hot. I don't feel that much warmth even from the exhaust.

Sometimes I even wonder if the pump is running. I know its meant to run quiet, but I expected to hear something at least when getting warm. All I hear is a very hushed woosh from the fans, but no pump noise per-se.
