Hello,
(Please skip right to the "Budget" if necessary) So, for the past week I've been wandering around the internet searching for a gaming laptop. Originally, I was looking for an (light-weight 15inch for mobility) ultrabook with nice graphics card so that I can use the laptop both for gaming and studying purposes. However, it seems like the best graphics card I can get for an ultrabook is NVIDIA GT 640, which might not meet the standards that I have in mind. Now, I have changed my mind to purchase a solid gaming laptop and a really cheap ultrabook for two separate purposes. After a prolonged search, I got a consensus that Digital Storm is the most reliable computer configuration company in the market, so I decided to settle here. Because I am new to this computer configuration process (and to be honest quite clueless), I would love to hear some suggestions from the experienced ppl on the net. So here it goes, Budget: $2000 Expectations: a gaming laptop that lasts for good 3-5 yrs. Usage: gaming purpose only. Games I enjoy playing include LoL, Skyrim, COD. If my configuration allows other high-graphic games on the new laptop, I might search for some new games! Special Needs: SSD! It seems like there are discussions surrounding the effectiveness of having SSD in a gaming comp. For some reason, I am really attached to SSDs (due to my friends recommendation) but please feel free to comment on this too. The build I'd recommend is #782945

tdtnsp hit it right on the nail-head. The laptop you had configured might have been good for some less graphics intensive games or better ones at lower graphics settings. The CPU you had selected is a lower end CPU and could potentially bottleneck (limit) your GPU, getting less use out of it. The i7 3740QM that tdtnsp recommended would be perfect for your use. The screen surface (matte or glossy) is up to your preference, although glossy does tend to glare more. If you could, it would probably be most beneficial to use your DS laptop as a dual-use system by adding a 750GB-1TB HDD along with the SSD to store school projects , papers, etc (use the SSD to boot your system and store games and use HDD for schoolwork). Lastly, right now DS is putting on a promotion where you can get 16GB of RAM if you buy 8GB of RAM. This will only drop price by about $50 but it would be saving money!
