my current primary c drive is an ssd with limited space and i would like to download games to my f drive, which is a 1tb hd. on some games it gives me the option of where i want to dl to, but other games dl directly to my c drive without giving me a promp about where to dl to. Is there a way to change default to f drive in windows 7? thanks |

From what I know, you can't and you will need to select "CUSTOM" when you install programs and install them to the data drive.
I assume the software you are using to download the games was installed on the "C" drive. You might want to re-install it on the actual DATA drive. |

I think you can just move the games from your C drive (right-click and cut) to the F drive (paste). After I created my E (game library) partition from the existing C drive, I had to transfer all my games to E manually. But like Alex said, set the game to install into your desired drive by using Custom prior to installation. I don't think you can set F to primary b/c C has the OS.

Copying and pasting an installed program from one partition to another is asking for problems. You're much better off uninstalling and then reinstalling to the other partition.
I don't recall what the registry key is, but on older versions of Windows I've been able to change the default program directory. I'm sure you can find it if you Google it (I'm on my phone right now or else I'd do it myself) |

to make it stop downloading to your C drive, move your "Downloads" from your C:user to your data drive. installing each program should have a thing where you can choose custom.

True, but no problems here and my games are in digital format. Would have to re-download.

If you install the Steam Client on the larger non-SSD drive, all downloaded games will also go onto the larger drive by default.

you might be able to do this by changing the C: drive to another letter and the drive you want default to C:
this may and may not work but is worth the try. programs usually default to c: so if they do that this will work but some programs may find the disk installed with windows so this wouldn't work in that case. i don't think this should make any problems with your os but you should backup before trying it. heres the guide: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844 when you get to the disk management thing hit change and change the letter. |
