Like an email or a phone number? I purchased COD4 on Steam like a month ago and have not been able to play it once. I try loading it and it just says "Preparing to Load Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare" - nothing happens, it just hangs.

I've tried troubleshooting, and went on steampowered.com to try to get a contact, but they make it impossible to get in touch with someone. At this point I want a refund so I can actually purchase a retail copy of the game. If I can't get it I fully intend to file a dispute with my credit card company.

Anyone have an email or number, or an idea?

umm
yes I do.  You have to use their "neat" little ask a question option.  I say neat because it takes forever and is a pain in the ass.

Go to main steam window.  You should see tabs like store/community/my games/my media/tools.

Bottom right a circle with a question mark in it that says Support under it, click on that.

Then get support for COD4.

Now the thing is, Steam wont help you with COD4 because it was made by activision.

So, just go here, http://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/activision.cfg/php/enduser/home.php?p_sid=nsdtunVi you may have to make an account with them or you can use your steamID.. i forget its been a few weeks since they helped me.  Be advised the first thing they will ask you for is a copy of Dxdiag... so include that in attachments.

They will probably also tell you to delete local game content, and download again.  You can also right click on the game in steam and verify file cache... should do those first before ya try to get help

Chris,

I really despise Steam.

HL2 was the only "Steaming" game, I had ever bought. Of course, I stopped playing HL2 years ago. The computer Steam was loaded on was scrapped long ago and sadly, I've had quite a bad streak of luck with pets over the last few years. So all the account info stored on the original computer is long gone, and I have no idea which unfortunate pet is the answer to my "Secret Question". My only links to those days was my email account and my HL2 CD-key.  Now I get the urge to play HL2 again. Fortunately either one of those causes Steam to caugh up my old account name. Great! But unless I can come up with the name of the correct furry friend, it won't give me the password! I admit that should be easy. I tried everything I could think of. No luck.

To make a long story short, I couldn't access my account. I couldn't get any response from Steam other than from some Censored email droid telling me there was no account associated with my email address. Fortunately, after a couple hours of fuming and typing in random passwords that came to mind, I finally hit on the one I'd used six years ago, or whatever. So the account Steam says doesn't exist is active again. I still have no idea which pet I immortalized as answer to that all important question....

So, I'll be interested to hear if your experience is any better.

It is nice that Steam allows you to play games without having the CD in the drive. That almost makes it worth the hassle.

Personally I love steam. Getting BioShock for $37 can't be beat. Also the fact that after you buy a game on steam, you can just junk your old CDs in a cardboard box somewhere, and NEVER have to see them again. Being able to download and play your games on ANY computer you log onto your account with is pretty awesome.

As far as passwords go, I've got mine written on several sticky-notes stuck together on my desk.
