I have, it's not as great if you're into alot of downloading of applications or gaming, unless you absolutely know what you're doing. It's superior for a "work" environment, though.
It's not really a pain to install either, you just partition your drive, pop the disk in (after you've downloaded a linux operating system, burned it to a CD) and restart then setup from there. The only pain is to uninstall it... I haven't heard of a way to "unpartition" a drive without restoring your computer to how it was when you first hooked it up... aka factory condition. Losing all your data, unless you backed it up. But even then, you have to reinstall all your programs, any tweaks you made, and your games. |

I've had to do that on my laptop twice getting rid of lime and ubuntu
I'm gonna have windows 7 (obviously used for gaming, music etc) and I was just thinking of other OS's to add, I do really like the crisp clean layout of linux but your right. not as great unless you absolutly know what your doing

One suggestion, if you don't already have it, is maybe to bite the bullet and use RedHat or one of the major Linux distributors. It may save you on some of the install/setup issues. I, for one, had a stand-alone Linux server for many years. I didn't have any major graphics cards or the like. Just a *real* fast (for the day, anyways, SCSI channel set up so I can out-pace the old IDE channels that were available at the time. Ran like a champ and was able to tweak the heck out of it. But dual-booting... haven't done that in a while.

I have yellow dog linux installed on my playstation 3. Obviously every driver that was needed was bundled into the liveCD along with open office vlc Firefox and some other specialized apps. As for installation it couldn't have been easer I just followed a installing linux for idiots guide on the internet and everything went off without a hitch.
