Hello all. 3 years ago I bought a Vanquish for my son. Couldn't be happier, no issues at all. In process of configuring an Apollo and have a question. Win7 or Win10. I use Win7 and like it, did the upgrade to 10 and hated it so I reverted back to Win7.
On a new Apollo should I stay with the default 10 install or select Win7 as an install option. Comments appreciated. Rick Edited by rickdean22 - 04 Jun 2016 at 3:54pm |

I would recommend Windows 10. While it is different and has had teething issues like with any new version, the future of update is with W10. Dx12 will only be supported in Windows 10, and its potential for future gaming could be huge. If and when developers make use of it, hardware and software enhancements will enhance CPU core usage, in game effects, scalability, etc.
When it actually helps we can only wait and see. I went from win 7 to 10 and its all good for me. |

If I was ordering a new system, I'd probably get W10 Pro (apparently more user control). I have not switched from W7U (no longer available) and will keep it until....(have read that it will not be supported after 2020 so by then it will be time to upgrade) That's me, I drive a 21 year old SUV w/cassette player.
Most have upgraded with no problems but there are others that rue the day they did. |

Cassette player? How nifty! Thought I was the only holdout. I drive a 24 year old Mercedes 300e valued at $900. (Kbb)
On the fence now, buy vs build the Apollo. Save $560 using the same exact parts. Several years ago I bought a Vanquish and it's a great computer with never an issue and it was actually cheaper to buy than build. I don't know why the Apollo is priced so differently. $560 will buy my kids and family season passes to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. Kind of getting of topic here but I'm sure you all can relate. Comments appreciated. |

You can definitely build cheaper, except maybe the Vanquish that is priced to move, being a partial pre built.
Building can be a great experience and smooth sailing. The added support that comes from having DS do it, and the price for their build and service techs who want to go home with a decent paycheck, is if something goes wrong. If the new system won't turn on, or goes to BSOD, or crashes every 2 seconds, its up to the builder to figure out what component is bad. Not so easy, even for the experienced . If someone is comfortable troubleshooting, dealing with returns or RMA's and has the time, then go for it. Of course, someone can order all the parts, install them and the rig fires up just fine and lasts for years. Like Dirty Harry once said. ![]() BEAN !! |

Upgraded from WinXP to Win8.1. Used Win8.1 (with Classic Shell) for about a year, then upgraded to Win10 about a month ago.
I added the 3rd party app Classic Shell so that I could use the Start Menu. That made Win10 something that I was familiar with. Now I get along with Win10 just fine. I really, really recommend Classic Shell. http://www.classicshell.net |

Actually, an Apollo DIY build using the EXACT same parts is $636 less expensive if you figure in DS shipping. That's like getting the i7-5930k and a Corsair Liquid cooler for free.
I'm upgrading from a i5-3570k, 16gb, SSD and a AMD R9-380. Its too slow for Sony Vegas video editing. Getting tired of the lag. Hard decision, build or buy. I've built 2 systems and purchased a Vanquish. I must say the Vanquish is a work of art, nicely built and haven't had any issues in 2 years. It just keeps on working great for my sons gaming. Windows 10 all day. It just takes some slight getting use to. But it's not bad at all anymore. A pretty great OS. DirectX 12 and 12_1, better multi-core optimization. Everything about it now is am improvement of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Use it for a couple of weeks, and you'll realize it's actually quite good.

So did you buy a DS or build your own? I need a new computer for video editing, my i5 is a little slow.
