The cost isn't really the problem, so what I'd like to know is if Digital Storm is reliable and also if those 2 desktops are actually decent and will allow me to play the latest games well. Any advice would be very much appreciated :)

Welcome to DS. There are actually 6 different Desktop and 3 Workstation models to chose from. You can configure all with the latest (or even send them what you want in it, they'll work with you $) except the Vanquish which come in 4 modes and is prebuilt.
If you want some of the gurus here to help you out in configuring one, let us know your budget, what monitor(s) you intend to use and games you play.
You can get a pc from more than one provider, of course. What sets DS apart is their desire to have you enjoy your purchase throughout its life and until you get a new one. That truly comes out when problems surface, as they sometimes do through no fault of theirs. (shipping, bad parts, etc.)
Good luck.

As for reliability, my first desktop from DS is 7 years old and still runs great. It’s retired now for a recent new rig, but I could’ve kept using the old one for who knows how long.   I did replace the graphics card and power supply over the years but that can be expected.    DS doesn’t make the parts but does test and assemble them to a high degree of professionalism.

If your title was buy vs build yourself...... building yourself saves money but then you’re responsible for any problems, bad parts, troubleshooting and no system warranty.

IMHO, DS is MOST known for their reliability. They will burn in your build until it is certain that every part is optimal. A close second on their list of attributes is standing behind their product. Much of what we respond to here on the forums is the inevitable but rare incident of a part or rig going bad. There is virtually no instance in which a customer has not been completely satisfied with their outcome.

I have two DS computers. Like bprat22, I replaced my first one after 7 1/2 years of flawless service just last January. Unlike him, I didn't replace a thing, and it was still functioning great the day my new one came. (Well, yeah, the video was a little weak! )

Just wanted to echo the above. Both of the rigs in my signature are alive, well, and still being used daily. Strong
