Hey Folks,

I'm experimenting with different fan curves to keep my Velox machine reasonably cool, but also super quiet. I think I found just the right curve. The fans run at 800 RPM when the GPU is below 70C degrees. Then they ramp up to 1500 RPM by the time the GPU hits 80C degrees.

Using this curve, the GPU tops out at 68C degrees, and it never seems to go any higher. That's perfect, because it means my fans never go above 800 RPM, and everything stays super quiet. I can barely hear them at all. However, it makes me feel good knowing that they will speed up if things get much hotter.

When running in this configuration, my GPU is 68C, and the CPU is 60C-65C. Does that sound like a safe temperature to be running long-term?

Thanks for your input.

IIRC, from my lessons with The Smart Guys® around here, they say anything under 80° is good, up to 90° is when you start to worry and 100° is bad... So, at <70°C you should be cool as a cucumber.

As covered, you're good.

Most CPUs and GPUs have a maximum junction temperature (also referred to as "Tjunction" or "Tj max") of 100ºC.

Information about Temperature for Intel® Processors

Intel® Core™ i9-11900K Processor - Product Specifications
(Within the Package Specifications section are Tjunciton and Turbo Boost maximum temp values)

I couldn't find an official document/datasheet for Nvidia GPU specs.

The VRAM temps (especially GDDR6X) have been widely discussed now. The following video at least covers an official source.

MICRON RESPONDS! What max temps should you run your G6X GPU at? RTX 3090 / 3080 Ti / 3080 / 3070 Ti | JimRPG (YouTube)

Observing my own systems and social media remarks, Nvidia (i.e., the FE cards) and EVGA allow the VRAM to reach as high as 110ºC before highly throttling -- sometimes the ambient temps for me are near or at ~26ºC (80ºF).
