Not sure if 16:9 is the best but it is the most popular. Aspect ratio is the ratio of the width vs height resolution. 1920x 1080 is 16:9 because if you divide the width of 1920 by height of 1080 you get a ratio of 1.78 :1. Multiply both by 9 and that's the 16:9.
Hope this helps.

Thanks... just looking for the best/fastest gaming experience! I just tried the 16:8 / 4:3
the 4:3 looked better to me? The other just looked and felt weird |

When I went from the old Dell 4:3 monitor to a 16:9 I at first wasnt sure I liked it. But it didn't take long to change my mind. Would never want to go back.

Most monitors have a default pixel size/resolution (normally referred to "native resolution") and the change is set by the software/hardware sending information to it (your computer and Windows). Some displays might have an internal setting allowing you to change this but I would guess not many. Under display options in Windows, there is a resolution setting. Typically it will adjust to fill all the pixels on the display but sometimes you might get black bars if the setting is odd for the display. To get the best picture quality on your display, you want to use it's native resolution normally listed on the box (i.e. 1080x1920, 2540x1440, etc).
Hope this helps...
