Can anyone give their experience with the Assassin case?  How does it perform in a air-cooled system?

It's very effective in terms of cooling a system with an air setup. We've been doing some testing and it definitely beats all of our other case selections.

Thanks Alex for your response.  I'm still hoping to hear from some people who have purchased the case.  I'm going to place my order next week so I'm in the final decision process.  Thanks again and take care.

That case hasn't been available here very long, so it may be hard to come by a user review. It's generated quite a bit of interest, and my own view is that it is set up very well to direct air where it needs to go. Just be aware that the top of the case is where it all comes together. so it must have ample clearance. Not only does the warm air escape here, your connections are all on top as well. You probably know all this, but if I had ordered this case without due diligence, it would have been a big problem.

The Assassin (a.k.a., the FT02), Raven 2 (a.k.a. RV02), and Raven 1 (a.k.a. RV01) are cases with a unique motherboard mounting system that helps to give it a unique airflow schematic compared to other cases. Rotating the motherboard 90 degrees so that expansion cards face up makes it so that airflow would be aimed upwards. The reason why this helps is because of the natural principle of rising heat, so basically, this case is moving air passively and actively. That's the theory.

Because of this new airflow design, fans are oriented upwards, and since only the motherboard is rotated, the fans have an ideal spot at the now roomy bottom portion of the case. With more room, you can expand the fan size. Bigger fan size = more airflow and less noise, win win advantage.

Theoretically, it should offer better airflow with minimal effort compared to other cases, but comparing it to the HAF 932 and such, you still can't beat a plethora of fans. lol.

Time for disadvantages! Ehehehehehe. With the motherboard like this, all your connections are obviously at the top now. To make it so you don't have one heck of an ugly topside, silverstone put in a top cover that sorta acts as a limiter. You dun wanna pass that limiter, to save aesthetics. So adapters pose issues, unless you have a cable adapter ,which are always nicer and neater anyways.
The Raven 1 (RV01) is a nice case and is bigger than the Raven 2 (RV02) and Assassin (FT02), and it does support E-ATX motherboard out of the box, however, it only has one fan for chassis airflow.
The Raven 2 and Assassin are basically the same case, but the Raven 2 is sorta crappy internally. Lol. The Assassin is a bit better designed. Both offer twin fans for chassis airflow.

I'm currently using a full tower APEVIA case that is free standing on the floor.  The Assassin is not as tall as most full tower cases but it is definitely longer.  I've read a couple of reviews that state that the airflow is not impeded if the case is on carpet. The intake fans are a inch above the bottom of the case so that's a plus.  The only negative for me is that the window is on the right and I wish it was on the left.  I'm not sure it's a show stopper but we'll see.

intake fans are a bit higher than level, however, you know carpet. the second you put something down on it the dang thing sinks into it. I know from experience, hehe. get one of those clear chair mats, my Raven 1 is running perfectly with one of those under it. also prevents carpet lint from getting sucked into the dust filters, another problem with putting it on carpet.

if you want a left mounted window, go with a Raven 1. dunno why everyone hates its looks, I like it lol. still has the vertical airflow design, supports E-ATX mobos rather than just ATX, hot-swap bays, tool-less bays (which suck on all silverstone cases actually..). taller than the Assassin/FT02 and Raven 2 though. compared to the Assassin/FT02 and Raven 2 though, I like the Raven 1 personally because the dang power supply is actually SITTING at the bottom of the case on the Raven 1, not suspended in the freaking air by a bracket....o_O

I feel 100% more secure than if I had an assassin JUST because of that. lol.

the assassin does have its advantages over the Raven 1 though, still, it has two 180mms blasting at your internals (Raven only has 1), and it is shorter...

The 120mm fan poised directly on top of the CPU cooler (which is pretty much on all cases) counts too, doesn't it? o.o
