I was here awhile back when I had limited cash. I'm still planning to purchase 3 computers in a couple of months.
Budget for each computer is $1,700 - $2,000 some of those might remember me. @Alex, do I still have that green light for the 10% discount in a couple of months? I'll give you guys a call then, when I'm ready to make the purchase. My usage would be gaming, of course. I don't care to go with AMD or Intel. 4GB of RAM with Vista x64 bit, if you can. EDIT: Forgot to mention that I will be playing on a 32" Vizio HDTV which can go up to 1080i . So, I would need a good video card to power that whole thing + my games at ultra graphics. I'll be playing games like: Empire: Total War; The Sims 3; PROBABLY Crysis. Thank you, Elition Edited by Elition - 17 Mar 2009 at 1:42pm |

It might be difficult to make a system that can run Crysis at 1080i with Ultra settings for $1700-$2000. If the tv is 720p natively, I would stick with that rez. It will allow you to run those games with a cheaper, single GPU card.
Are you looking to run a system that has DDR3 (i7 or AM3) or an older DDR2 (Core 2 Quad, AM2+) system?

I noticed one of the pre-built systems for $1,879 http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsavedsd.asp?id=248470 How about that? GTX 285 1GB really packs a punch I hear. And about the DDR3, by the time I get the computer, that will probably be the cheapest of them all. How does the pre-built system look? Edited by Elition - 17 Mar 2009 at 2:11pm |

The only problems I have with the prebuilds are the case (lack of airflow) and the powersource.
The PSU at 750w doesn't leave a lot of headroom for upgrades. 1000w is the way to go if you're building for the future.
The case is restrictive towards upgrades due to the small size and lack of airflow.
While the 285 is the most powerful single GPU card available (it's what I am putting in my build), it can't handle games like Crysis and Empire: Total War at Ultra settings at such a high resolution (1920 X 1080). Now if you decided to run it at 1024 X 720, the GTX 260 should be powerful enough for you.
Here's an idea:

Hi Elition, good to see you back.
you should call DS and talk to them on the phone, since you have special discounts and etc you need to discuss. the pre build is good, what I don't like about it is the case, psu and vista 32bit. and we can't reconfig a pre config. if you are not planning on upgrading the pc at all the pre build is ok |

Forgot to mention also, about my HDTV:
Here's the link for the product. It can display up to 1080i with a max resolution of 1366 x 768. Again, it's a Vizio 32" HDTV. Would a GTX 260 be good enough at that resolution? For games like Empire: Total War @ ultra settings? |

It's a pretty good TV. I hooked up my computer to it via VGA (It has a VGA slot), and it was looking "okay" then all of a sudden the TV started to auto-size it and it made it look sweet! And, I believe that when I hooked my computer up to it, it was the native resolution. So, hopefully I'll be good. |
