A DS Dreadnought might attract some attention with this as an option.
Here's an unboxing video in the event you need more information. Edited by taw2015 - 17 Feb 2013 at 7:17pm |

We don't recommend dual gpu cards here in the forum cause they are a bad idea.

To be honest its late and its something not only I have explained many times but others have done so as well, do a quick look around you should see many reasons why, but in a general way they run warmer, have less performance, tend to go bad more often and as soon as one gpu goes out you have to send the whole card in, leaving one with no gpu, that is my "its late" version of it, if you look around its explained in details, plus other reasons.

Only 1000 made as collectors editions. This means it will be almost impossible for anyone to get their hands on one.

If you looked at the video Linus actually states that the GPUs on the card are not down clocked like in most dual gpu cards. He also states that the performance is more than twice that of a single 7970 because the GPUs were batched for extreme performance. Temps are supposed to be very low too, especially with the unique cooling on it.
There aren't any concrete numbers or benchmarks given, but it looks like ASUS has made a dual GPU card that targets most problems with other dual GPU cards. I think taw2015 just posted this because that card looks awesome, and if DS could somehow get their hands on two it could draw attention in a displayed dreadnought or something. We all know that dual GPU cards are riskier than single, but I don't think that was the point of this post. The fact that so few were made and that they've got to be ridiculously expensive would make them hard to get though. |

Well it takes more than one person's review for most of us to believe those results can be duplicated by anybody.
cooling depends on block and rad and I doubt that is a high-end block and rad (specially since he mentioned asetek), and most important thing about temps are ambiance temps, so one person's load temps really has nothing to do with another person's temps, same goes for usage and performance. Also still suffers from "one gpu dies you lose both gpus, till you get replacement in like 3 weeks". "Finally, like past ARES and MARS cards, the ARES II is once again a limited edition product with Asus constructing just 1000 cards, each numbered and sold in a collectible fashion", in other words as mentioned once your gpu does go bad, good luck replacing it. and price-wise, for the price its gonna go for, I can have a lot more gpu power. Also from the benches I have seen, where it would be useful (5760x1200) its only like 2 to 6 fps better then stock crossfire 7970. So IMHO no matter how you look at it, its still a bad idea, I'm not impressed cause to be honest I didn't see anything impressive. Edited by DST4ME - 18 Feb 2013 at 2:07pm |
