I like the specs on the Rampage better than the NVIDIA 790.
Though I won't be getting DDR3, how does NVIDIA GPU's  get along with ASUS??
I don't want to go crossfire. But with the specs I just read, including upgradeability for future processors, I would be willing to give up SLI.

JB, not sure what upgradeability for future processors you are talking about, but if you are getting a say Q9550 the most upgrade you can do is a current qx9770, future chips are not going to be the same socket as the current processors.

In short you can't use future processors, starting with nehalem that is due out oct or nov

Unless I'm missing something ofcourse.

The ASUS Rampage mobo uses an Intel X48(?) chipset. It is capable of handling CrossfireX which is an ATI  multi gpu integration scheme. For a single nVidia graphics card, there is no problem with interfacing with an Intel chipset. You'll be fine with any single graphics card solution. Ermm

To follow up with HM here, here's a Asus variant of x48.  Unfortunately gotta go DDR3.  Though the Rampage Formula is pretty much the DDR2 variant here anyway.

Hrrrm up to the person here then, if he's sticking to DDR2, and later on gonna do DDR3, your board would probably be better.  If he's sticking to one or the other definitely then he probably could choose the Asus' one ahaha

The only other aspect to compare both would be which overclocks better I guess ahaha.

Errr I think how it went was.

"There is no problem interfacing with a single Nvidia GPU with an Intel chipset."

"Right but only the current chipset will do that, the new one coming out will support SLI natively."  Though truthfully yeah, could use some grammar tweaking lol.

what I'm saying is that the highest CPU this board will support is a penryn.

is it really that complicated?

-wikis-  Geh?  Really?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_2#Penryn

I don't follow "Yorkfield, Penryn" and all that miscellaneous set of names that just gives people more headaches.  All I know is Q##, QX### and is alot more bearable to follow.

But uh from what that entry says.  Aren't Penryn meant for laptops?  Not PCs?  Please don't stab me with a pitchfork, I'm just winging it here >_>;

Well, it seems to include all current CPUs... can't go much further atm. So, it's either let the buyer purchase this or tell him to wait for a future mobo that is yet to come out... with unknown capabilities and reliability. There's not a guarantee that the first iteration of these new mobos will be much more than a stepping stone as the whole new i7 concept is a rework by Intel. Only time can work out any real issues.

Well that was all I was clearing up, he said
including upgradeability for future processors

and I'm letting him know that it will not support any future processors, it only supports whats already out.

the new processors will use a new socket, which this mombo will not support

Errr then it actually wasn't necessary to quote Widdlecat who's sentence or should I say a portion of her sentence was referring to GPU compatibility.

Without the quotation I actually DON'T get lost as to what you were trying to implicate ahah.
