I am woefully, nay totally, ignorant about these new LCD/LED monitors. My last desktop system had a CRT...lol Now I am putting together a new desktop system, and need help in selecting a monitor for it. Buy.com has the Asus VE228H 21.5-inch monitor for $129.99 after a $10 rebate (expires 10/31). This seems like a really nice monitor and a pretty decent price, but then I already said I am totally ignorant on this, so my opinion does not impress me at all...

Does anyone have any experience with and/or knowledge about this monitor? If this is not a good deal, what is the preferred monitor in 21.5-22"?

Thanks !!!!

Most important thing about a monitor is its panel, right now there are 2 major ones, TN and IPS, IPS has superior picture quality/clarity.

keep in mind:

1. response time is a bs number, its there to fool you and does not represent the true response time of the monitor, there is no real way of truly finding what response time is, the closest to it is white to white but you don't see that, you see grey to grey or black to black cause they give small numbers to fool users but they don't mean anything, there are different methods to get these numbers also, and each will give a different number as results, therefore you can even compare one to the other, cause we don't know what method was used for which, and even if we did, still GTG or BTB don't mean anything.

2. contrast ratio is also bs number.

That panel is a tn panel cmacord. not much to say, its a reguler 60hz monitor

I add more info to my previous post so please look at it, I thought I added that the first time but now I saw it was not there lol, so I added it.

for IPS you gonna need to be in the 23" - 24" the lower sizes don't have as good of a specs as the 23" and higher ones, and they have lower processors.

as mentioned IPS has better picture quality/clarity and because of that it cost more.

a good 23" ips panel with coupon will cost around $270.

Dell UltraSharp u2312

thats a good IPS panel, goes on sale or there are coupons that will bring down the price to $270.
