I currently am awaiting my new system which will have  a 5850 graphics card. In the future I would like to upgrade to a dual card system and I have some questions.

1. Does my second card have to be a 5850 or can I get a 5870?

2. If my first graphics card was OC do I need to OC the second card and set it at the same settings?

3. How difficult is this to do on my own? I have installed single graphics cards before, but this seems a bit more involved.

Thanks

1. 5850

2. best to have them at the same speed.

3. not difficult, its the same as installing a gpu, only thing different is the cf bridge that you will have to connect, which is very easy.

I thought the new ATI 5000 series cards would allow you to plug in any card and they would work together and not downclock.  IE he could plug in a 5870 with his 5850 and they would work together just fine in crossfire at their respective rated speeds.  Can Justin confirm?

you can mix and match but a 5870 + 5850 will do worst then 2 x 5850 in performance.

so its better and cheaper to match still.

If I throw in a second 5850 should I try to OC to match the other card, down clock the OC card or just plug in the new card as is and leave the OC card alone?
