AMD has been working the ATI RV790 GPU for a while now. It appears to be like it will take a little longer for the company to release an SKU based on it. Contradicting earlier reports, it is known that the RV790-based SKUs stay within the Radeon HD 4800 series, and not form the HD 4900 series.

The flagship single-GPU product based on the RV790 is to be called Radeon HD 4890. Samples based on the RV790XT A11 are currently running at speeds of 850/975 MHz (core/memory). AMD is reportedly telling its partners that the RV790XT is expected to be around 20% faster than the RV770XT (HD 4870), and has NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 285 in its sights, for head-on competition. Additionally, AMD may force NVIDIA to reconsider its pricing, since the RV790XT is expected to be priced between US$199 to US$249, up to $150 cheaper than the GeForce GTX 285 in its current pricing. Unfortunately, one has to wait till April.

if the ATI 4995X2 can beat the 295s I just might change my cards come September, being that I can get ATi cards that very very very cheap prices.

ATi needs to get back in the game quick and compete head to head with Nvidia on all fronts, that way us consumers will get the best deal, competition is the best thing for consumersOuch

hmm...I WILL have to get a 4890x2 when they come out with it. Then I guess I'll just pass the 4870x2 down to an older comp or sell it to a friend.

The great thing is that these cards out perform the GTX series and are $100 less at least in the case of the 4890 that is. Gotta love that $199-$249 price tag!

Im thinking I might upgrade to a 4850x2 or even a 4870x2 if prices dip enough in april! im excited!

Well, by most bench marks the 4875x2 runs a dead heat with the 295, different gamers give each card a lead on a case by case but overall they perform roughly the same. So I would HAVE to say that a 4890x2 will take a clear lead...at which point Nvidia will sandwich two 285s together to make another bigger version of the 295 and the cycle continues. Just my opinion anyways.

Except Nvidia rarely comes out with a "New" card. It just keeps using the G92 core since the 8800GTX. Shameful...

How about when the 4870x2 beat everything nvidia had? So they rebranded the G92, AGAIN.

Yes i agree! We, consumers, need competition in the video card market. ATI needs to build great quality products, at reasonable prices to drive down the prices of Nvidia cards. I'd love to get DUAL SLI GTX 280's, but I can't bring myself to spending sooo much money. lol

Yes i agree! We, consumers, need competition in the video card market. ATI needs to build great quality products, at reasonable prices to drive down the prices of Nvidia cards. I'd love to get DUAL SLI GTX 280's, but I can't bring myself to spending sooo much money. lol

4875x2???!?!? I can't find anything on this at all.

Also an update on release. Release of the 4890 GPU's is slated for April 6th. Im excited.
