I have a VaporX 5870, which I heard is factory overclocked by 20Mhz. I restored all settings back to standard, and restored factory default. However, since then everytime I restart my computer, my screen looks blurry, out of focus, with very low sharpness and texts look purple. my screen is also shifted.

When I go to CCC under monitor properties / adjustment, all I have to do is to click on any of the four arrows for moving the screen. once I click, instead of moving the screen, the monitor reboot and everything goes back to normal.

I just don't want to do this every time I turn on my computer.

and I feel this isn't a driver issue

make sure you have the resolution set in the CCC to your monitors native resolution first.

Thank you justin
let's see if next restart gives me no trouble

Additionally, I wonder what's the normal temp for 5870 in idle?

mine now is 43 C with 30% fan speed, dual monitor, GPU clock 400 and Memory clock 1200

However, once I check "Enable ATI Overdrive", it drops to 33 C with 30% fan speed, same monitor, GPU 175 and Memory 300.

is there certain benefits of running one mode over the other?

it's strange that everytime I change resolution to anything but 1680x1050, the screen automatically adjust itself for sharpness and size. However once I change it back to 1680x1050, which is the only resolution I am willing to work with, the computer doesn't adjust itself for anything.

43 C with 30% fan speed is great. That is what mine run at . and actually I don't even use Overdrive or manual fan control in the catalyst control center. If manual fan control is turned off the fan will increase as the card gets warmer on it's own.
