Hi guys,
I just got my Marauder level 1 yesterday, and it runs Skyrim on ultra perfectly at 1920x1080. That's good! But I installed avast and not much else, and since then my pc has been getting BSOD and acting incredibly strange for a new pc. Does anyone know if avast is known to seriously mess with your pc? I uninstalled it in safe mode, so I'll let you know if it remedies the problem over time. Will uninstalling be enough, or should I roll back to a system restore point? Will that delete my installed games? Thanks! |

Anti-Virus programs can cause issues sometimes, if the issue goes away after you uninstalled it, then you should be fine, try to use a different anti-virus program like AVG Free?
Also, if you still get BSOD issues, try a system restore to a point before you installed AVAST. |

Very odd, certainly not impossible, because as mentioned anti-viruses can do weird things. That being said however, I have used Avast! for years and never once had any reason to believe it was causing any issues. I left AVG after it did screw up my entire Windows installation in a single update (Never have I seen as much e-rage as I did on AVG's forum when they released that update).
But yeah, please keep us updated, I'm curious to see if it was the culprit. Edited by Tidgxor - 21 Jul 2012 at 1:43pm |

I downloaded avast, and I can play games and such fine, but when I try to shut down windows it just hangs and freezes on the update and says it needs to install 86 (!) updates, which is strange for a pc I got yesterday. Have to do a forced shutdown just to turn it off. Before I uninstalled avast earlier today I left the pc on and came back with a blue screen saying something about memory allocation. At times the pc won't start or shut down correctly so I don't know what the deal is. I would like to restore it to an earlier point but none of my restore points from yesterday are showing up.

It could be something else, try to remove your overclock to see if the issue goes away (load BIOS defaults). If you've tried that, re-seat the memory sticks and video card(s).
