Previously I had an Aventum 3, and I loved that machine. If you're looking for a truly epic gaming machine to be the showcase of your game room, then by all means consider that machine!

However, you should take the size and weight of the Aventum into account. It weighs about 100 lbs, so moving it around requires some lifting equipment like a hand truck. It also won't fit under many desks. Placing it on top of a desk is an option, but only if you have a buddy to help you lift it. And don't put it on top of a desk if you live in earthquake country (California.)

When I upgraded that machine a few months ago, I decided to get a Velox instead. After using it for a few months, the Velox is my new favorite. It has plenty of internal space like the Aventum, is almost as beautiful, but it's a more practical size. It also weighs less than half of what the Aventum does.

I took some pictures to compare the size of those two machines. Keep in mind that the Velox is a somewhat large machine already. The Aventum dwarfs it!

I came to the same conclusion about telescopes too. I'm an amateur astronomer, and I used to always get the biggest telescope I could afford. Eventually I discovered that smaller telescopes were much easier to use, and thus I used them more frequently. Big toys are fun for a while, but sometimes they aren't practical.

That being said, if your main goal is to have a gorgeous showcase of a gaming PC, it's hard to beat the Aventum. I don't know any other manufacturers who build something in that class.

JamesAstro,

I always wanted a Questar Corporation 3.5 inch table top telescope from the 50's. I did have a 8 inch Celestron telescope for years but it was always a hassle to take in and outdoors to use.

@JamesAstro: Wowzers! That's a beast. There is validity to using full-tower (and larger) cases for complete, custom liquid looped cooled systems (i.e., everything from the motherboard chipset and VRMs to dual high-end graphics cards being water blocked).

With that said, I still prefer small mid-tower systems.

Yeah. I haven't done a lot with telescopes -- I know a couple people that had one -- but can believe a small/medium-sized telescope and being able to reach a great viewing spot (e.g., no/little light pollution) will probably provide a far better experience than having the biggest, best lenses that you don't want to take beyond your backyard -- unless your backyard happens to be a great viewing spot.

It depends on the context.

Yes, the Velox can fit an E-ATX mobo even though it is listed as a mid size case.
It is very easy to work in. Mine did not have the psu cover so it is very easy to get to the cables. (Also came with an extra fan on the window facing the gou. No longer an option.)

You only want an Aventum if you are going to go full liquid cooled and do heat causing experiments with the hardware. Otherwise, it is very awesome looking until it leaks. Smile
