Are the parts just stacked up somewhere like for desktop builds, or are some assemblies done offsite by an ODM?

I have a relatively simple build, I would think, so it shouldn't take too long (I'm assuming).

Are the testing procedures the same as with desktops?

Laptops are very simple to build, a majority of the time can be due to new hardware that is released and your laptop is waiting for them to arrive. Up until now, the recent delays were due to Ivy Bridge and the 7970M GPU. You should not have any issues with delays.

in my case the delays are all on me!! upgrading to a bigger SSD and the GTX680M have added time which I am sure will be well worth the wait..

btw I was told that the GTX680M's are expected at the end of this week

can anyone confirm this? maybe Alex if he comes back and reads this reply

You have nothing to worry about, taw2015. I ordered mine two days after Ivy Bridge became available, and even in the mad rush, mine shipped out in around twelve days. With your timing, I have no doubt it would be much less.
