Well I just got my rig this tuesday(19th). So far so awesome. The build is so amazing and the inside looks fantastic. Even my friend(a true tech junky) is so far impressed by DS's layout and offerings that he is wanting his next comp to be from these guys.

The rig runs extremely smooth and working on it is a blast. Of all this praise you must be wondering what is finally the snag....Well I got the wrong OS. I meant to go for Windows XP Pro, instead I got Windows XP 64. I don't even know how I misread the 64 for PRO, but I did and now feel stuck.

So far I've been trying to deal and just work around it, but am finding that plenty of the things I got on my old comp with XP Pro, cannot work on my 64-bit XP. Making it very troublesome for transfers between the two and such. Even the latest two versions of Windows Media Player is not supported on the 64-bit XP.

Taking advantage of the return policy, I honestly feel like returning the rig just so to get it re-optimized so to have PRO and pay the difference, but keep thinking this may take a week just to do that. My friend did suggest perhaps just to go buy another copy of XP PRO(since my girlfriend is using the old copy on my old computer). Though this will set me back some cash, that is not the problem, what is the problem is I'm wondering if I'd be stuck losing all the pre-installed grand things on the rig.

If I can install a new XP Pro OS onto here without losing any great pre-installed software I would just opt for buying a new copy of the OS.

Any suggestions to help me fix this problem is greatly appreciated??? Wink

Unless you live next door from DS then it's seriously not worth it to return your rig just to sort out your operating system.

Call DS explain your situation and ask for a copy of 64 bit vista.
You'll need a 64 bit OS to use more than 4 gigs of RAM and windows XP 64 bit just plains sucks at optimizing itself for multicore processing, and is also plagued by incompatibility issues since most 64bit drivers/software are developed for vista seeing as it's what most people use.

Also as you probably know if you buy Vista now you'll also get a free upgrade to win7 in october.

Well I am actually located just 40 mins from DS, so going there wouldn't be that bad. I am actually going to be in the area today, have to give a friend a ride to the Fremont Bart.

I'm just wondering how long it would take for them to you know, fix it up with a different OS?? I am wondering on which OS I can possibly go with? I used XP Pro for years and never really had any big probs, once on this 64 tho, not even being able to install my own Trend Micro virus stuff was a big signal that perhaps I should think this through a tad bit more.

I will be calling DS in just a few mins tho, hope what they say happens to be good news. Wish me luck ^__^

I am going to move this to General Discussion. Give us a call, but, to be honest, we've registered and installed the OS on your system. The most we can probably do for you is offer you a discount for the OS you wish to purchase now.

You know I'm trying to figure out how to put that in my sig, its kinda of a long list though. Unsure of what I should list.

BTW, Alex if you see this, I'd like to speak to you about that discount you mentioned. If you can PM me that'd be great.
